Elijah had been contemplating going to see Mackenzie, just to see why she’d reacted the way she had online. But he knew well enough that when Mack was pissed, she was pissed, and nothing could change her way of thinking if he tried. He cared for her a great deal and he didn’t like to see her unhappy, but she usually put herself in foul moods and took it out on other people, and it was a bit hurtful at times. Though Elijah always just bounced back, he knew that if he didn’t prove her view of people wrong, then no one ever would. She never let anyone get close enough to see her and it was always slightly maddening to care so much about her and always feel like she didn’t care much for him. But he’d gotten close enough to her to know that even she couldn’t mean everything she said. It was obviously in defense, it was the way she kept people away.
He couldn’t help but respect it, even if it was harsh and stupid on her part. Though he understood where she came from most of the time, he just wished he could get through to her. She needed someone to be there for her, and as much as she tried getting him to go away, Elijah would not budge. He was too stubborn, and once he set his sights on something, he was determined to get it. And in this case, that was to work on Mack at least being nice to him. There was only so much one person could take, even someone with as big a heart as Elijah had. And he usually had a lot of tolerance for a lot of things, but enough was enough with Mackenzie. No he wouldn’t give up and stop being friends with her, especially because stupidly, that’s what she wanted, but he was definitely going to let her know how much it bothered him. And she would listen for once. He knocked on her door.
