Jared was glad to get away from his History classroom as he went to his locker first rather than heading for the cafeteria for lunch time, reaching in his bag's front pocket to pull out the metal case in which he kept his cigarettes, grabbing one and putting it behind his ear as he stuffed the case back in his bag and placed it in his locker, closing it after grabbing his coat and heading straight out of the Academy. He'd spent the entire morning in some sort of daze, not really able to concentrate very well in any of his classes, even in music. Ms. Adams had actually asked him if something was wrong, but he'd merely shrugged it off on a bad night of sleep, and then during his free time period he'd just done pretty much nothing. He hoped they hadn't learnt anything important during History either, because he hadn't listened too much in there either, which was unusual considering it was his favorite class aside from music. And then, he really didn't feel like going to his Gym and Languages class this afternoon, but skipping classes wasn't very well taken at Gordon Parks', and he wasn't in any state to allow himself something like that considering his presence here wasn't a given just yet, and he could lose his scholarship for the years to come rather easily considering his past.
He walked over to a bench that was further away from the school, sitting down on it and grabbing his lighter out of his pocket, placing the cigarette in his mouth and lighting it, taking a long drag and letting out the smoke slowly as he tilted his head back slightly. He knew it was a pretty bad habit he had there, but at least he made sure he was far enough from where most of the students hung out so that the second hand smoke didn't bother them, figuring that was just a matter of respect. Not that he cared much about that at the moment. This morning when waking up, he'd gotten a phone call from his mother that was surprising, to say the least. He hadn't really reacted just then, but now it was hitting him full force. She was pregnant. After sixteen years without having another child, she was expecting her second baby. And she was forty, too. Well, he knew that it wasn't as rare for women that age to have children anymore, but still, you'd think if she'd wanted a bit family she could have taken care of it a bit sooner! Could she really picture him at seventeen - because he'd be seventeen when the baby was born - with a baby sister or brother? It was completely ridiculous. He huffed slightly, shaking his head and taking another drag of his cigarette.
