Stephanie was pretty happy at the idea of going out on a date. She hadn't really had many occasions for them through the year, mostly because she hadn't been asked out very often. There had been a couple of guys, but after one date they obviously hadn't thought it would work because she hadn't really gotten news of it. She hadn't given up hope, obviously - she was only sixteen after all - and she'd figured she'd just have to wait a few more years maybe before she actually did get a boyfriend. In the meantime, she was happy just hanging out with her friends, studying for school and practicing for her vocal classes. Earlier this week, however, a guy she'd talked to a couple of times before, a senior musician named Steven, had approached her and asked her, after a few minutes of talking, if she wanted to go out with him on Friday night. She'd said yes, because from what she knew of him he was a nice, interesting guy, and good looking too, and so now they were currently sitting at Cafe Provence, a nice but still casual enough restaurant she'd never been to before, waiting for their waiter to come and take their order.
The beginning of the date had gone well enough, and so far Stephanie could honestly say that, if he was up for a few more dates, she really wouldn't say no to it. He was a proper gentleman, having opened doors for her and pulled back her chair for her to sit in, and though he wasn't quite as interesting as she'd expected - then again maybe he was just nervous - she really was having a nice time so far. "I'm really glad you agreed to this date," he told her after a few seconds of silence, causing her to smile at him and shrug lightly. "Well, I'm really glad you asked me out," she told him, taking a small sip of her glass of water as she took another glance around to see if their waiter would be getting here soon, starting to feel a bit hungry. "I've... well, I've admittedly wanted to ask you out for a while now," he admitted, causing her to raise an eyebrow slightly, almost wanting to ask why it was that he hadn't, but figuring that maybe he wouldn't want to tell. Obviously though, that wasn't a problem as he kept going. "But then there's this guy who'd been going around saying that you had a boyfriend back in Arkansas, so I figured there was no point. Then I heard that you'd gone on a couple of dates earlier this year and I figured you wouldn't be the kind of girl to go on dates with a boyfriend back home, so I decided to ask." Stephanie had frozen slightly as Steven had gone on talking, and now that he was done, she couldn't help but stare a bit silently for a few seconds. "What guy?" she finally asked when she regained the power of speech, almost feeling like she knew who it must be, but not wanting to believe it. "Erm... Medawar dude? Carson?" he said, obviously unaffected by it and oblivious to her own reaction.
