Nolan was pretty happy to be back in Kansas City. Summer had been a little complicated with his mom, because it was becoming more obvious with every year just how much she wanted to set him up with someone, and though she picked nice enough girls, they definitely didn't have the same idea of what kind of girl he wanted to be with. Well... to be fair, even he didn't really know what kind of girl he wanted to be with, which obviously didn't help his case, but he figured he was still young and had plenty of time to figure it out. He knew that it wasn't an issue of not knowing if he wanted to be with a girl or a guy - he was definitely straight, as far as that went there was absolutely no doubt. He just... well, he'd never actually met a girl who made him feel like there could be something more. Marissa was a great girl and he'd enjoyed dating her, but he kinda felt like he'd done it more because it was a possibility at the time than because he really wanted to because he felt that attracted to her. She was gorgeous and all of that, but at the end of the day, she was just not the kind of girl he wanted to be with.
Though their break up hadn't been that bad, it hadn't been that great either and they hadn't talked much since, which had admittedly made him feel relieved about the fact that they were not in the same group this year. It would have been just a little awkward otherwise, and he wasn't really one for awkward situations. He was pretty confident that his Sophomore year would go great too, even though it was only the second day since school had started back, but his teachers were the same as last year so he knew mostly what to expect, and then any new challenge in his theater class was just something he'd gladly welcome. Homework, however, was definitely not something GPA teachers felt like going light on, even during the first week back, and so he couldn't say he was upset about the idea of taking the time to sit himself down and get started on it as he entered the library for his study hour. Some students didn't really see the point of it, but he definitely did - it was the one thing that enabled him to have more free time in the evening and during the weekend. Settling down at the nearest empty table as his classmates filled the chairs around him, he pulled his History assignment out of his backpack and placed it in front of him, reading it over.
