PERSONALITY
Joel is a very kind and loyal person. If made a friend his is the type of person who sticks through thick and thin and won't complain about it. He cares a lot about other people and often puts their needs before his own. It is a very rare thing to hear him refuse to do something for someone that is in his good graces. Which often leads to people taking advantage of him without him even really realizing it. He is extremely gullible and will believe most things that people tell him unless he has a reason not to. He is quite intelligent and often spends time helping other people with their assignments, even if he hasn't finished his own as he wanted to please other people. He is always happy to be doing some sort of work and feels a bit off when he doesn't have any work that he needs to do. In his own mind he thinks that he's not being a push over and thinks that he is just flexible enough to let other people be comfortable, he often ignores those who try and convince him that he is being a push over because really he doesn't want to hear it.
His patience levels are usually quite excellent and therefore allow him to be very tolerable, mostly because he can easily handle stress. Like everyone though, even Joel has his breaking points. Though it takes a lot of effort to ever reach the stage where he looses his laid back attitude and starts to really react to the situations. His temper when messed with can be extremely explosive and can put a lot of people to shame. He knows when someone has crossed a line and isn't afraid to tell them so. At that point there is actually very little chance of getting back on his good list. He knows how to hold a grudge and often does hold them without embarrassment. He feels that if someone has betrayed him so far to get him to the point that he would have a grudge to hold it isn't worth trying to sort something out with them anymore. He makes sure that he lets all of his friends know that, too. Not many people actually believe him when he tells them though.
On some levels Joel does care what people think about him, but it's on a much deeper level then what he looks like or wears. He cares a lot more about what people think of him as an actual person and what they think of the way that he does for other people. As his goal is really to make people happy he thinks that it is important to know what they think about who he is. He has been known to make minor changes in his actions if it would make someone that he cares about happy and he doesn't have a problem with doing it.
APPEARANCE
Joel stands at 5'8" and has skin that is fairly pale most of the time. He doesn't easily get a tan, but then again he never really tries to get one either. He has light blonde hair that could be considered shaggy, but he makes sure to keep it more short then long. Mostly because when it gets too long it tends to fall in his eyes and he hates when it does. His eyes are a blue-gray and are usually found looking around at the people surrounding him curiously. Thanks to a few years of braces and his retainer, he has straight teeth and a wide, bright, smile that is often seen upon his face.
Casual is one of the things that he enjoys quite a bit so he is often seen in jeans that are comfortable and a t-shirt. As he really doesn't care about his appearance he could care less if his jeans were from Wal-Mart or American Eagle. He judges his style on the things that he feels most comfortable in and that he likes wearing. Sometimes he will go with the trend just to see why everyone likes it so much, though it is very rare that he decides to do that.
HISTORY
Born on December 22, 1992 Joel was the third and final child of Patrica and Charles Rodgers. He was very much an unplanned child and his older sisters were 8 and 10 years older then he was. The family that he was born into didn't live well off but weren't in the working class either. They sat at middle class and didn't have any problems with that. In the city of Dover, New Jersey his father worked for a company called Howmet while his mother ran a local restaurant. Both of his sisters often took turns watching him while he was growing up because his parents were always working. Lindsay was closer to him and age and also ended up watching him a bit more once Rebecca got old enough to want to go out with her friends. Lindsay never had any real problems with it though and was always happy to help take care of Joel whenever the occasion arose.
Joel grew to look up to Lindsay as a role model and wanted to be around her as much as possible. So naturally when Lindsay started playing in her middle school band when Joel was around 5 he wanted to start playing instruments, too. Lindsay always let him play around with her flute whenever he wanted to and even taught him some of the more basic things. As he began music class in Elementary school he wanted to play instruments right away so that he could be like his older sister, however he was ultimately disappointed when the music teacher informed him that instruments didn't come to anything but recorders and that he'd have to wait a few years before he even got that far. He worked hard in school though and kept learning more things from Lindsay as he got older. It was hard on him when she had to move out and go to college as he felt like he was losing his best friend. By that time though he was able to start with recorders in elementary school and quickly learned as much as he could wanting to make his sister proud when she came home and visited. He soon mastered the recorder and got offered to start band a year early for his quick learning and enthusiasm.
He managed to do very well in band playing the saxophone, in his spare time he also started to learn other instruments as he found that he didn't want to do anything but play music. He kept growing better with time and after a bit of online research about music schools he came across Gordon Parks'. He filled out an application without his parents knowing at first because he didn't want to get their hopes up for nothing if he didn't get heard back from. Though he did get a letter back from them asking for an audition which is when he told his parents about the school and the opportunity. They agreed to it and allowed him to go to the audition. He managed to get into the school with a partial scholarship and has been working hard ever since then to keep everything up to standards and going well.
