Getting settled

Drew groaned lightly as he dragged his bags along the way to his dorm room, mentally cursing himself for not buying those suitcases on wheels. That would have easier, and probably lighter. But no, he had to keep his big heavy bags instead. He'd been carrying them for a while too - he'd followed his sister to the girl's building, showing her around a little and making sure she wouldn't get into trouble right away. She was prone to that, but it wasn't something she needed to do right now. Not something she should do either. As much as he tried to keep it for himself, he was worried about her, but not because of the obvious reasons a brother could be worried about his kid sister. She was not one who would be getting troubles when it came to things such as boys, dating. For one thing, he wasn't sure of how much she could let herself into a relationship - he was pretty sure there were some things she was ready to do, might have even already done, but that he most definitely didn't want to know about. But love? Nah, not Cass. Love meant being vulnerable, it meant opening up to the other person, trusting them. Holding your heart out in your hands, free of all protection, ready to be squeeze, torn, smashed into pieces. Cassandra was smarter than that. She wasn't vulnerable. She wasn't like him.
Shrugging it off, he walked inside the Dwight David Eisenhower Building, heading to the counter to get his key and dorm number. He wasn't exactly looking forward to it though, especially the roommate part. For one thing, he hated sharing his space, and it only took one slight bad luck for him to end up with a nosy, hyper, annoying guy. The exact kind he simply couldn't deal with. He could be rather quiet when he wanted to, and his dorm room was usually a place he used to relax... some of the time anyway. For the rest, it was the same problem every year - he'd actually meet up with the guy who'd be his roommate, think he seemed rather cool and get along with him well for a few weeks. Then it would start going bad, especially when Drew would invite some girls over - okay so he rarely asked the other guy's permission and that was usually the problem - and they'd start fighting and end up the year hating each other. Already, he'd made himself hated from a few guys, some for better reasons than others, but still. Some people were just unreasonable. Just because he invited a girl over, didn't mean he was being selfish or anything. It wasn't as though he planned on sleeping with her while his roommate was sleeping in the bed next to his.
When he finally got his key and dorm number, Drew nodded at the guy standing on the other side of the counter and walked over to the elevator, not wanting to drag these bags up to the second level. Maybe he was being a bit lazy, but well... there wasn't anybody to complain about it at that very moment. He hummed to himself as he waited for the elevator to reach the second level and stepped out, glancing around to check which direction he had to go in and starting to walk when he figured it out. He gave a sigh of relief when he finally reached the door, dropping his bags to unlock the door and stepping inside the room, pushing the bags in with his feet as he could hardly feel his arms anymore. However, he looked around with a small frown when he noticed how the rooms had changed over the summer. Everything was white now. It was almost scary, and definitely needed some decoration, or paint at the very least. He'd have to discuss it with his roommate, before things started going bad. Because he was sure it would happen this year too, it was simply unavoidable. But it was his last year at Gordon Parks' Academy for the Arts anyway, so he wouldn't have to suffer any more roommates after that. He planned on getting a small and cheap apartment to rent near the College he was planning to go to after Highschool. It would be better that way.
Closing the door behind him, he pushed his bags to the nearest bed, deciding that it would be his - anyway, unless the guy was a fen-shui addict or something like that, he probably wouldn't mind which side of the room he slept in because they were both identical and separated right in the middle. It looked like a room two lunatics might share in an hospital for the mentally ill. Shaking his head lightly, he picked up his bags with a groan and dropped them on the bed, emptying the ones that contained his clothes first. They were not folded, and he was a bit doubtful as to the smell of some as well, but he didn't really care and so he just started shoving t-shirts into his drawers without paying much attention, the rest following soon though he did hang some stuff in the closet as well. When he was done with the clothes, he carefully took out his laptop and placed it on the desk along with his iPod and camera. He then placed the rest of the stuff randomly around where there was still space and lied down on his bed when he was finally done, taking to staring at the ceiling. Yep, this was going to be fun.
