Christmas was always a darker period for Drake. He'd used to love it so much as a kid, but now it just brought back unwanted memories. He knew his dad wouldn't have wanted that, he was a really cheerful person, and he loved to celebrate Christmas, but as much as Drake tried to be strong for his mother and sisters, it just wasn't as easy to do on the anniversary of the night that'd caused his life to be changed irrevocably as it was for any other day of the year. Not that it was ever easy, dealing with it, even though it'd happened so long ago. It just happened to be something he could manage, because he knew some people had it worse. Some kids had no parents at all. There were people dying everywhere everyday, and just because he'd happened to lose his father didn't mean he was allowed to give up and wallow in self pity. Besides, he was the man of the family now, so he couldn't exactly get rid of that kind of a duty, and he knew his mother needed his support, especially with his kid sister to take care of, and his older sister having decided to stay behind with their grandparents. Yeah, sometimes life wasn't fair, but that was life.
He still felt a bit bad though for what he felt was abandonning his mother this Christmas, but he just hadn't been able to face it. And then, there was no denying that he was glad to be spending it with Tiffy. Their relationship had evolved into something slightly strange over the past few months, and he figured she probably liked him in the way he liked her, and that she knew that too, but he also figured she just wasn't ready for anything of the sort, and he didn't want to push her. Tiffy just didn't think or do things the same way as most people, and he liked that about her, but it also meant that he got confused on quite a few aspects of what her words could mean. Mostly, he didn't look too much into it, but lately it'd been harder not to, because the more he spent time with her, the more he wished he could just be allowed in, allowed closer to her. He knew she was near to trusting him, in some weird way maybe, or at least he hoped so, but it was there, and that was all that he needed. And if it was all that he'd be getting for a while, he'd just deal.
He smile a bit when he heard the knock on his door and walked over to open it, guessing it was her considering the fact that his roomie had gone home for Christmas, and most of his friends had actually done that too. He pulled the door open and smiled at the girl standing on the other side, letting her in and closing the door behind her.
