Vi wasn't having as much trouble adapting to her new school as she'd feared she would. For weeks before their arriving at Gordon Parks', she'd been seized with the horrible thoughts that Rose would fit in perfectly well among her new classmates, in her classes, and that her talent would be praised for what it was worth, like Tyler. They both succeeded in everything they did, and meanwhile, would she do just as well? Maybe she wouldn't be able to take the pressure, to be so far away from home. Maybe the way teachers taught here would be different to what she was used to and she'd fall behind, and then would they take her scholarship back? Or maybe her dance professor - she'd heard the woman who taught the class was extremely strict, one of the most demanding teachers at the Academy. What if she didn't belong socially? What if nobody liked her, it wouldn't be fair to Rose who always managed to surround herself with many friends. She shouldn't have to chose between living her own life and looking after her sister, just because she couldn't belong.
But the moment she'd gotten to the Academy those fears had disappeared. Well, at least, most of them had, and the remaining weren't quite as strong. She'd taken to the place instantly and she'd gone to one of the dance rooms every day as soon as she'd learned they were allowed to practice outside of school hours, which caused her to carry her pointe shoes everywhere. Actually, she was hardly ever seen without her back pack which held books and pencils and sheets of paper, anything she'd need to prepare herself fully to the year that would be starting soon. She'd even managed to get a hold of a list of books she'd be needing to read for her English Literature, History and Language classes and she'd bought them already. She was currently busy reading one of them as she walked toward a nice, shadowy spot beneath a tree on the school grounds, idly holding the bookmark her grandmother had given her a few years back, too caught up in what she was reading to notice as it slipped from her grasp, sitting down in the grass when she finally reached the place she'd been heading to, leaning back against the tree.
