As Cara sat outside on her porch on her swing, she couldn't help but stare at the tire swing that hung on the tree right next to her house. That tire swing had never actually even been used- it sat there day after day for years without ever being touched. There had been a few times when Cara and her siblings had wanted to use it, but none of them ever did. The day before Kyle Donovan was in that terrible car crash, he put up that tire swing for his kids to use and to always think of him for when he was gone- meaning gone on business trips. However, the branch he put it on was not very strong and the thing could fall off any minute, and none of them wanted to be the one to break it, feeling as though it would break a very strong memory. Cara was deep in her thoughts when she heard a very familiar voice say, "You know, you don't get to fog out with no reason just because today is your birthday, Princess." She turned around, to playfully glare at her brother, "Like I ever need a reason, Rhybear." Rhyan Donovan chuckled, and sat down next to his little sister on their porch swing. "What were you so deep in thought about, anyway?" It always worried Rhyan a little to see Cara space out, he knew that one of these days it was going to get her in trouble.
Cara hesitated a second before nodded over to the tree, watching Rhyan follow her gaze. She knew her big brother hated to talk about their dad, and it did not shock her one bit when he changed the topic, "You should be worried about that boyfriend of yours coming here." He was right, but for some reason she just was not worried about Joel coming to her house at all. The only thing she was worried about was how Rhyan would act around him, "Rhyan," she said in a serious voice, one that she rarely uses, "I really want you to be nice to him. Joel means so much to me and you know that I lo-" But he cut her off by covering her mouth with his hand, not wanting to hear the last part of that, "Yeah, yeah...I'll try to be nice to the guy- just for you on your birthday. Speaking of which," Rhyan looked into their driveway, and Cara must not have been paying attention because Joel was already out of the car. "Joely!" She yelled, almost leaping off of the porch swing and ran to where he was and then literally jumped into his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist. "Hi honey," she said sweetly before she pressed her lips against his, not caring that her brother was watching them from the porch swing, but hey- it was her birthday.
