Cass figured that there was a point in everyone's lives where it seemed like your world crumbled around you, but she really hadn't expected that point to happen when she was only sixteen years old. In a way, she couldn't entirely be blamed for it. She'd grown alone in spite of the fact that she'd been surrounded, but then surrounded by what? Nannies, maids, drivers, cooks, private teachers, the list went on. She'd been technically raised by dozen of different people, in her own little universe that was void of anything that resembled a family or friendship. She'd lacked on the most important life lesson from the moment she was born, she didn't know how to love. She'd gradually learned in the past year, but like anything else, you couldn't just learn something and be an expert at it from day one. Practice makes perfect, but practice was hard, and there were times when it seemed easier to go back to what life used to be. Times when she told herself it'd be easier to be alone again. And apparently, the last few weeks had been a rather good example of those times.
She'd slowly started pushing her boyfriend away, but apparently that wasn't enough. Up until she'd been fifteen and joined Gordon Parks', she hadn't seen herself as having a family, and she hadn't viewed Holly as a welcome addition to her universe at first, though she'd decided that knowing one person in this school might be better than none. She'd grown closer to the girl though, and she knew she never really gave any sort of sign as to how much the older girl meant to her, but she was truly the only family she had, and she loved her like a sister. But apparently even that she was capable of screwing up. She'd made herself believe she didn't care, but that'd only lasted about five minutes before she'd started feeling miserable. She couldn't not have Holly in her life. She hadn't managed to sleep in spite of the ridiculously low amount of sleep she'd been getting in the past few weeks, but it hadn't taken long to see that in this situation, pride really didn't mean shit. She got dressed in a hurry, not taking time to check the weather and repressing a shudder and a shiver as she walked out in the cold April rain with a light hoodie, her hands shoved deep in the pockets of her jeans and her shoes already soaked through within five minutes. She was a pretty pathetic picture when she arrived at Holly's apartment, taking in a shaky breath and feeling her throat tighten as she knocked on the door.
