Tonight was the night. Well, at least, if everything went well. Sam wasn't actually overly nervous about the idea of proposing, considering the fact that he and Beth had talked about it before, and so he didn't think it was to be overly confident to think that she would most likely say yes. However, picking the ring had been something else entirely, and that he was a bit nervous about. Money hadn't been a problem - sure, his family wasn't rich, but his mom had a good job, and his dad had had a lot of money from his job too before his passing, which had partly gone for his mom and partly for him, though his mother had put it in a savings account for when he'd have to go to college and all of that. However, he'd gotten pretty lucky with a scholarship that payed for the most of his tuition, and he'd earned himself some money too in the past few years, so his college funds had remained mostly untouched so far, and when he'd called his mom to tell her that he wanted to take some money out of it so that he could buy an engagement ring for his girlfriend, she'd about cried of happiness.
Getting the money had been the easy part. But in spite of the fact that he'd thought he'd found a ring that might be good for Beth, he'd decided that he didn't want a good ring - he wanted a perfect ring, and that required a bit more than looking over some stores' catalogues. He'd thought of asking Connor to tag along, because the other guy had some experience in ring picking, considering the fact that he was married and all, but he'd decided that it was something he needed to do by himself, and so he'd go from store to store, trying to find the one ring that would make Beth happy. After a few weeks of searching and debating and looking over prices and such, he'd finally found one that he really hoped would be the right pick, and now he was currently waiting for her to get to his apartment, since she'd decided to stay over at the Academy for Christmas, or more like stay at his place, but she'd gone to get a few things from her dorm room, which had given him plenty of time to get his present wrapped up and placed under the tiny tree he'd put up in his living room, while dinner was cooking in the oven.
