Drake wasn't entirely sure what he was doing as he walked across the school grounds in direction of the girls' dorm building. Well, no, he knew what he was doing - he was headed there so that he could give Ava her birthday present, that wasn't too hard to figure out. But the reasoning behind it was what he didn't quite understand himself. Sure, he was the kind of guy who wanted to be wishing a happy birthday to his close friends face to face rather than on a website or a phone call, or through text messaging, and if they wanted to celebrate or something then he gladly celebrated with them. But he generally didn't go and buy presents for them, at least not big presents. For really good friends, he'd get them a gift card to the movie theater, maybe some candy he knew they liked, something pretty generic like that, because thinking up presents just wasn't one of his strongest points, and to be entirely honest, he just didn't like doing it either. So when he actually went out and spent a good amount of time trying to figure out the perfect present for someone... well, it generally meant something more.
Hence why he wasn't too sure this was such a great idea. Not that Ava really knew of his pattern, but he did, and he didn't think it would be so brilliant to allow himself to develop the kind of feelings he currently had for the other girl. After all, they were friends, good friends at that, and crushing on a friend was never really smart, because more often than not, they didn't like you back. Obviously, he'd tried convincing himself quite a few times that it would fade away at some point, because really, he couldn't like Ava, not that way anyway. But as it turned out, he actually could, and it was really more confusing than anything else. Pushing those thoughts out of his mind, figuring that if he tried not to think about it too much it would probably help, he kept walking on his way to the building, sneaking in without much of a problem and heading over to Ava's room, hesitating for a couple of seconds as he let his fingers rest against the small wrapped box in his coat pocket before he shook himself out of it and just knocked on the door, waiting a bit anxiously for her to open. After all, he hadn't seen her since before winter break, and he was excited to get to hang out with one of his best friends again.
