Haylee had never expected to ever love school as much as she loved Gordon Parks'. Well, she'd figured that once she moved on to college, she'd probably like it a lot too because then she'd be studying something she loved, but as it turned out, she'd gotten lucky enough to find a high school where she could do just that. The only downside was, obviously, the distance between her and her family, because she could only talk to them on the phone or through emails, with the exception of three months a year where she was on vacation, at Christmas and in the summer. It was worth it though. All that she'd learned ever since the beginning of the year, the amount of improvement she'd achieved, it was simply amazing and she just couldn't wait to come back next year and learn even more. The workload wasn't tiring to her, she enjoyed doing it for the most part, except for a few subjects once in a while, but the teachers were mostly so nice and friendly that you could just about ask them for help on anything. And then, she'd never seen the likes of her music teacher before - she was fascinating with how much she knew and how many instruments she could play.
What she loved most about the Academy though was just how easily she could go and practice whenever she wanted because the school's music rooms were basically open all the time, except probably at night but that was to be expected. As it was, she wasn't sure it would even be open yet as she made her way across the school grounds early on a Sunday morning, but she'd woken up with that familiar urge to just sit herself down and play some music. She was happy to see that, at the very least, the school itself had been unlocked as she opened one of the large glass doors and made her way inside, looking around at the deserted hallways and making her way over to the upper left wing. She always left her harp in the music classroom, because it was too large for her to carry all the time, and so if the door turned out to be locked still she'd have to wait before being able to practice, unlike people who had smaller instruments that they kept in their own room and could just go practice outside. Luckily enough, the door was already open when she finally arrived to the main classroom, peeking inside to make sure she wouldn't be disturbing someone else's practice time and making her way to the back, carefully taking her harp out of its case and sitting herself down before leaning it back against her shoulder, smiling at the familiar feel of chords beneath fingers as she started playing a few notes.
