Addison hummed lightly to herself as she walked through the corridors of the school, finding her way without a problem in spite of the darkness. It was late, well past the curfew and the janitors were done with their work, so there wasn’t too much risk of being caught. She had no school work to do tomorrow (it was Friday, and since she was almost up to date she’d decided she’d take a little break and keep it for Sunday) and so she’d decided to do something she’d been wanting to do since she’d gotten to the Academy. Bake something. It was slightly more dangerous to bake at school rather than at home, because for one thing, Addie was a night cook, and for another, students weren’t allowed in the kitchen during the day. Well, logically, they weren’t allowed during the night either, so that was two rules Addison was breaking merely to bake cookies. Oh well, if she got caught, she could always try to offer some as a peace offering, and if that didn’t work, she’d simply have to face the consequences of her craving for chocolate. Besides, she wasn’t a proud girl, but when it came to cookies, she had no complex in saying that her own were her favorite, and they really were her own too. Well, she hadn’t completely made the recipe from scratch, but she’d modified it to a point where she could claim it as her own.
Of course, Connor also had a bit to do with her doing this. She’d jokingly suggested giving him cookies for the portrait, but she’d figured it wasn’t such a bad idea after all. Besides, it gave her one more reason to bake them, and it was also a way of thanking him for his help. Had her mother been there, she’d have teased her by saying that the way to a man’s heart is his stomach, but luckily enough for Addison, she wasn’t there, so that was a good thing. Earlier that day, during their History class (she was in the same group as him), she’d actually told him what she would be doing that night, even suggestion he could join her if he wanted, but she wasn’t sure if he’d thought she was being serious or kidding around. She hadn’t clarified anything because then he’d left the classroom with his friends, and she highly doubted he would show up, but there was a small part of her that still hoped he would. Besides, it wouldn’t be as boring waiting for the cookies to be ready and cleaning up if she wasn’t alone.
So after finishing her day, she’d headed off to the market and had bought the needed ingredients, along with all the other things she was due to buy, like her bed sheets and cover and some other decorations for her bedroom, figuring it was about time she took care of it. Now all her bags, for which she’d actually had to take a cab to get back to the Academy, were scattered around the room. Well, at least, her side of the room. That perky Freshman they’d made her room with wouldn’t have appreciated it otherwise, and even then she wasn’t sure that she liked seeing any part of the room in any kind of mess. After getting back from her shopping trip, she’d read and drawn until it was after the curfew and Mandy was asleep, before sneaking out of her dorm room and into the Academy, careful not to be caught by the security cameras – she knew where they were placed by heart anyway – and now she just had to finally reach the cafeteria.
When she saw the door ahead at last, she quickened her pace and pushed it open, quickly walking over to the counter that separated the lunch room from the kitchen, jumping on top of it swiftly and swinging her legs to the other side, sliding off the counter into the kitchen. Grabbing her grocery bag, she went over to switch on the lights, blinking a few times as her eyes got used to the bright lights of the room. She then tried to remember where she’d found the mixing bowls and all that was needed before – because it wasn’t the first time she did something like this, she’d done it a few times the previous year. Trying to be as quiet as possible, which wasn’t all that easy for her, she started looking around the room, opening the cupboards doors and drawers, searching until she found everything that was needed. That done, she grabbed the grocery bag and took out the ingredients, having bought every single thing though she knew she probably could have found sugar and flour in the kitchen, before taking the folded and faded recipe out of her back pocket, placing it on the counter. Well, that was going to be fun.
