Ayla's day had been going pretty great so far today. She'd had the day off, which in a way was a bit of a bummer seeing as Jared was currently at work, but it was definitely nice to be spending some quality time with her little man. He was growing up to be such an amazing kid, and she couldn't feel more blessed to have a child like him around the place. She knew that she and Jared could take a bit of the credit for it, seeing as she felt they were raising him right in a lot of ways, but at the same time, she was pretty sure it also had a lot to do with just his very own sunshiny personality. He wasn't the most outgoing child ever, didn't run up to just anyone willingly, but he was a kind, sweet little boy, and he definitely had no issues sharing his love with the people he did know. As it was, being around Shawn had had a good influence even on herself and Jared. Her husband had a lot easier time speaking out his feelings now, having always wanted to make sure their son knew he loved him and was proud of him, and although she didn't want to assume improvements in herself too much, she did feel a lot more grounded in a lot of situations.
Currently, they were sitting together in the living room, the tv on on one of Shawn's favorite shows, although he was paying a lot more attention to his toy firetruck - which, of course, was his very favorite toy because it was like daddy's big firetruck. There were few things Shawn liked better than visiting Jared when he was at the firehouse, which granted made Ayla a bit nervous at times that they would be there as a distress call came through, but something told her even if that happened, Shawn wouldn't understand the meaning of it and would just enjoy the show. As it was, he was the first to notice the tv once his show was interrupted by the news, coming up to her and patting at her knee as he pointed at the screen. "Daddy's fiwetwuck," he said gleefully, causing her to look up, the familiar panic filling her at the sight of the building on fire on the screen, though she had gotten pretty good as getting past it by now. Fires happened, and Jared was always fine. "That's right baby, that's daddy's firetruck," she said with a light smile, pulling him up in her lap as he started making alarm noises while running his toy truck over the couch and her legs. Her grip on him tightening slightly as she watched, in mingled shock and horror, the burning building collapse live on the tv. "Oh," she breathed out as her heart gave a painful twist, settling Shawn on her hip as she stood up. "Mama, buwding gone?" he questioned with nothing but curiosity in his eyes. "Yes honey, they had to put the building down, but they'll put it back up soon," she spoke in what she was hoping was a calm voice, reaching for the phone and dialing Holly's number, chewing on her bottom lip until she picked up. "Hey Holly, can you come get Shawn? Please?" she asked her in a slightly strangled voice.
