PERSONALITY
Jerome, though he usually goes by Tyler even though that’s technically his middle name (he just hates the name Jerome), is probably not the type of guy whom you’d expect, at first sight, to be such a girly man. Well, not to the point where it gets ridiculous, but he’s usually a lot more close to his girl friends than his guy friends, and that’s mainly because he prefers the type of activities girls typically do as opposed to those you’d expect from a guy. He hates most sports and would rather knock himself out than have to watch a match of football or baseball on tv, or live. He’s not really one who’ll talk about girls so much in the way that some of his friends too (focusing on the body rather than the mind) and don’t ask him about mechanics, he knows nothing. Of course, these are just the perfect stereotypes as to what guys usually prefer and so he doesn’t worry too much about that because he knows that some girl are sports freak and some guys gossip like hell. However, had he been born in the fifties, he’d probably be on his way to a boot camp by now.
Tyler is, however, a big gossiper. There’s no denying it, he enjoys spreading news and hearing them, mainly because he figures there’s nothing interesting going on with his own life so he might as well get interested by what happens in other people’s existences. He enjoys a shopping trip now and then, and he does like to get nice clothes. Most of his girl friends take him shopping whenever they can before he has good taste as to what fits them best in forms and colors, and so he’s pretty much the best judge they could have for an upcoming event or date. It doesn’t bother him, he enjoys that a lot actually, being asked for advice. Actually, he enjoys giving his advice on pretty much anything – fashion, school work, personal lives... he doesn’t really think of himself as such a good adviser, but he’s always glad to help whoever comes to see him and does his best to make them happy with his answers. Of course, he doesn’t give the answers people want to hear, because that wouldn’t be of much help. He has a golden heart and wears it on his sleeve, ready to help anybody who come to him for help, and he tends to get hurt easily, which is why he’s never really had that many relationships before, neither with guys or girls.
APPEARANCE
One thing is sure, Tyler has enough on his body to please anybody from either gender. Reaching 5’10½”, he has a muscular body type without being too bulky, due to his long hours of dance training and other type of exercises to gain more strength. Not quite tan but not exactly pale either, his hair which used to be a light shade of blonde has now turned to a more bronzy, dirty shade, closer to brown than to blonde. Sometimes he keeps his hair style a bit longer, like he prefers it, but he tends to crop it short whenever it gets warmer, because it’s not comfortable for dancing in his opinion.
His hazel eyes usually change color according to his mood, switching between a more muddy, murky olive tainted to a deep brown, sometimes even achieving a bright shade of green. He usually shaves every two or three days, often waiting until a light stubble appears on his cheeks, but never lets it grow very much longer. His fashion style is one of his good points. It doesn’t matter what he wears – jeans or cleaner pants, button down shirt or t-shirts, pulls or turtle necks, he always looks great in it. Even in his ballet costume – and that a lot of ladies appreciate a lot, who knew a guy in tights could be so hot?
HISTORY
Born on the 25th of May 1990 in Suffolk, Virginia, he was the first to join the Hale family, his mother Sally only twenty at the time, and his father, Patrick, twenty three. They were not quite expecting him, only starting their family lives together, having been married for merely two years now, and it was four years before Sally got pregnant again, giving birth to twins, Rose and Violet joining the family. Soon after the little girls’ birth, Sally was diagnosed with ovary cancer and had to go through treatments and operations before her uterus was taken out, making it impossible for her to have anymore children. During that time, Tyler – who was merely four – took as great care of his little sisters as he could for his young age with his father, though there wasn't so much he could do until he got a bit older, still growing very close to them, not really understanding at this time just how serious his mother’s illness was.
His taking care of the babies lasted a bit longer than what had been expected because once Sally learnt she could no longer have children, that mother at heart who’d wanted at least six children in her family went through a small period of depression, spending most of her days in bed while the men of the house looked after both her and the twins. She soon got better, and the family was happy again, at least as happy as it could be in those circumstances, but Tyler had grown a bit further away from his mother, whom he almost saw as a stranger now because she wasn’t the same woman he’d known before, the cheery, optimistic, bright young woman. She was aged, and dull, and didn’t smile quite as often as before. It made him sad, and it made him angry that he couldn’t make her happy like he used to.
He started looking for a way of spending more time away from home, figuring that taking some sort of class at school or at the community center would be the right way of doing so. He tried learning guitar, painting, a book club, but nothing really caught his attention until he joined a dancing class. At eight, he found his purpose in life and threw himself in it completely, never letting what other people had to say about a guy dancing get to him. He got better to a point where a lot of his professors told him he had a bright future in front of him, and he would have believed it himself if it hadn’t been from his father’s words. He didn’t want him to dance – sure, it was fine while he was a kid, but it sure as hell wouldn’t be his life. Tyler did his best to ignore those words and kept practicing, getting better and better every day. When he was twelve, he changed classes, joining a more advanced group and at the same time meeting Matthew, a boy of fifteen who’d long before decided he would be a dancer, no matter what other people said. He and Tyler grew closer, and soon after he turned thirteen, they shared their first kiss. It didn’t go much further than that – Tyler wasn’t sure if he really wanted that kind of a relationship, and Matthew moved to Connecticut soon after that.
Tyler was left to deal with his confusion as to his sexual preferences – after all, he still found girls very attractive – and kept on dancing until he found out about Gordon Parks’ Academy for the Arts. Without his parents knowing, he applied for the famous school and it wasn’t long before he got his acceptance letter, all those years of hard training finally paying off. His father was angry though, and it was long before he even agreed to let his son go off to a school to learn about dancing. But it was irrational of him, and he realized that it would be stupid to let this chance of free education at such a known school pass by. To this day, he still hopes that Tyler will choose some other path once he graduates, but he no longer have much hopes for it – which is a good thing, because there’s nothing in the world Tyler would rather do.
