PERSONALITY
Nate is a very passionate boy whenever it comes to something he finds interest in, the strongest being Film of course, but that doesn't keep him from obsessing over other stuff. He could easily have signed up for the Creative Writing course if he'd have liked, and can often be found sitting in a corner of the school grounds, in the shade of a tree with his headphones over his ears, writing whatever crosses his mind, but he figures that being in Film allows him to write scripts, which is the best of two worlds really. Something a bit particular is that he is also very passionate about food, and that doesn't mean eating it - though that's rather enjoyable too. He's just a cook at heart, and he loves trying out and experimenting new stuff when it comes to the kitchen - when he's at home, he requests to be able to cook at least two meals a week, which is actually a bit of a bummer for his mother seeing how she loves to nurture him when she gets to see him, which isn't a lot considering his being away all year long.
He tends to pass as a bit careless on most issues when it comes to relationships, but that's only to people who don't know him. With close friends, he threats them like they're the most important people on earth, which he thinks they are, after his family. He's a very open person, with a big heart and an attentive ear, but he's quite blunt and honest. If a friend needs to hear something, he will say it, even if it makes the other person a bit upset. He's compassionate but cool headed, he doesn't feel like he needs to jump around and scream at the top of his head when he's excited about something. He doesn't show a lot of emotions, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have them - he's just more of a private sharing type of person when it comes to feelings. The fact that he doesn't show his feelings doesn't mean he lacks any of it however, and he can be a pretty sensitive guy even if it's not his strongest point. He'd just rather deal with it himself than let other people see it, seeing as he doesn't get how it'd be any of their business anyway.
He's a very independant kid and learnt early to take care of himself, though he was by no means neglected - it was his own decision, knowing that someday he'd need to do stuff by himself, and he didn't want to be stuck confused about how to do laundry or be stuck eating Mac'n'cheese. He is still that way most of the time, and he enjoys the Academy a lot for that, because it allows him a lot more freedom and responsibilities than he could have at home, mostly when it comes to his mother who fusses over him whenever he's there - he appreciates the gesture a lot, and loves her to death, but he just prefers to take care of himself. He's a lot like his father on that aspect, and is glad that the latter leaves him be most of the time.
APPEARANCE
Nathan is pretty much your typical teenager when it comes to looks. He's not the hottest guy around, nor the one that will attract the most looks in a room, though he's gotten hit on merely on an appearance basis quite a few times, but he's definitely not plain or ugly either. He's good looking, he just doesn't flaunt it or enhance it. He keeps his dark hair, a deep shade of almost black brown, to a medium length, though its been known to go a bit past his shoulders when he gets lazy and doesn't get it cut. Same goes for most other things about him - facial hair, clothes, etc. He can go a week or two without shaving, and then from one day to the other he'll have a completely clear face. Of course, that doesn't happen every month, just when he has really a lot of school work to do, so mostly toward the end of each term, but even then, he tries to keep it closer to a two days stubble than a full on beard.
As for his style, he doesn't really have one. He mostly put on whatever article of clothing jumps in his face the moment he get up, though he doesn't go and put on dirty clothes either. He has a very monochromic wardrobe, which causes him to be able to put on whatever he wants and it'll fit wiht anything and everything. Button up shirts, t-shirt, jeans and cargo pants, he doesn't really care as long as it fits, doesn't smell and is still in one piece. He rarely will go shopping for new clothes, though he had the money for it, but he figured there are things that are a lot more essential than clothes or shoes might be.
HISTORY
On the 11th of November 1991, at precisely 10:45 at night, Joanna Holloway, 15 of age, gives birth to a small boy which she will not be able to even name. She holds onto him as often as the nurses allow, but the heartbreaking truth makes her cry every time she does - the young mother, having gotten pregnant by accident - and pressure - knows she is too young and has already signed the adoption papers. She knows her baby boy will be taken care of better that way, and the next day, he is taken away from her. The adoptive parents, feeling sorry and compassionate for the young girl, grant her one wish - to name the baby Nathan.
They take the baby home to their house of Lake Oswego, Oregon, where many toys, clothes and presents are already waiting for him. Kathleen and Todd Travers, respectively thirty-two and thirty-nine years old, had both been trying for years to have a baby of their own, but it'd had to be accepted at the end, they simply couldn't. After passing a couple of tests, it was found that Kathleen simply couldn't get pregnant, and that was when they decided to try and adopt, their home and heart big enough to welcome and shelter a little soul that would not be their from blood, though that didn't matter. And there was hardly a more nurture, loved child in the neighborhood as Nate grew older, a bright, though slightly boring kid, at least from an outsider's point of view. It was obvious from a very young age that the little guy was more advanced than most of his classmates, easily succeeding at school and developping small talents here and there.
For a few years, he worried his mother a bit by the amount of time he spent sitting in front of the tv, which he much preferred to playing outside with other children, not being a very social kid. But when she realized that it was more the interest for the movies than the activity itself that fascinated the child, she decided to organize a special day every weekend, during which the little boy could pick a certain amount of movies to watch without being disturbed, and that would be all the time he was allowed to watch tv during the week, which didn't bother him a lot as he didn't find much interest in sitting in front of a box all day long. By the age of eleven, after two years of this little activity, Kathleen noticed that Nathan had started taking notes whenever he was watching a movie, which lead him to merely watching one on these special days, though he watched it over and over again, filling notebooks with notes, comments and even modifications. His parents discussed it longly before they started looking into it, wondering if there were classes that were given for this particular interest, as it wasn't the acting that seemed to fascinate him.
Nathan was only twelve when they found out of Gordon Parks', but already his parents knew that was where he was meant to go. The decision was made, and with enough money saved since the day of his birth to put him through the four years - though he could easily have earned scholarships - the application was sent, and quickly accepted. At fourteen, Nate was glad to pack his bags and go to live 'on his own', somewhat, though his mother was less happy to let him go but very proud still. He would finally be able to study more properly what he loved most, and put his talent and knowledge to use. It took him a bit of time to get used to the ways of working, but soon his passion and talent increased, as well as his knowledge.
