Dearest Miki,
I was so glad to receive your letter yesterday, thank you for taking the time to write it. Technology is so hyped these days, but I feel like people rush everything when they write emails, and with how busy you are at the Academy and we are with the ranch, phone calls are so tricky to arrange. I do hope we'll be able to hear from you and your sister soon though. We miss you both dearly, and are already looking forward to the holidays. Home doesn't feel as much like home when you girls are away. Though, I know coming home means being away from your friends and Nicholas, but I'm sure you'll be able to manage a few weeks for your mama's sake, because I must have you back for Christmas. Who knows how many more years I'll have my two daughters home for the holidays before you both have to alternate from year to year?
I was so proud to hear of you getting the lead in your Junior class' play my darling. You are such a talented young girl, and I know you'll be able to achieve many things in life if you set your goals and work hard toward them. Of course, there's nothing wrong with taking a break for play once in a while, and we'll always be here to help you whenever you need us. But I have no worries about you Miki. I know you'll succeed in whatever you set your mind to.
There's been a lot of movement around here, not all of it good, but we're pulling through alright. Your dad is finding it a bit harder to take care of the ranch on his own, and soon it'll probably be just us. We've got a couple of boarders right now, but there's no knowing how long they'll stick around. And then there's just so much work to do around the place, and though your dad doesn't want to admit it, he gets tired a bit more easily nowadays when he's trying to patch things up. I help as much as I can, but really I think he's just in need of a vacation. Probably next winter, if we find someone to take care of the place while we're away, and if I actually manage to pry your father away from the place. He's always so worried everything will fall apart if he goes away for more than a couple of days. And I'll admit, I don't feel all that comfortable with not being around for extended periods of time, but I think time to ourselves will do us some good.
Oh, I was almost forgetting. Well, I'm sure you've already seen it, but I've enclosed a check for your fall break school trip. And no, I did not take any of it from your savings. I know you wanted to help out to pay for it, but I'd honestly much rather splurge a little on a nice little trip for you and you keep saving for college and later in life when you'll need that money.
I'm gonna need to end this letter now honey. I've got lots of things to do around the house before it gets too late, and I still need to reply to Izzy.
We miss you my Miki, and we love you. Keep making us proud.
