Dear Via,
It makes me so pleased to hear that your first year of college is going well. Not that I had doubts about it. What, a super smart girl like yourself goes to college and suddenly fails? Not my granddaughter. No, she's so talented and smart, there's no doubt at all that she'll succeed in everything she does. I'm glad to see that you're still pursuing film through college too, since it is something that you love and have such a talent for. And Ruth is still pursuing her writing as well? That's wonderful. It makes me happy to see such passionate young people going out and trying to accomplish their dreams.
What are your plans for the holidays, you neglected to mention them in your letter. And while I know that it won't be a cup of tea for you to spend it with Josh and your parents, I'd really like to see you again at least for a few days. I know that you spent last Christmas here and maybe you should spend some time with Ruth's family, since the two of you are engaged and all of that, but I'm an old woman and let's face the facts that I'm not always going to be around. As it is, you already live so far away and you're my only granddaughter. I'd just like to see you once a year at the minimum, so talk with your girl and try to figure out what you two are up to and let me know.
It's weird to think that you live away for real now and don't need to come back home at all. I just wish that Josh would follow your lead, but as it is he still lives in the house and he and Candice are here so very often. You know I don't approve of that girl and I'm glad that you aren't friends with her anymore. Her sister seems much more like a sensible person, so I'm sure she's a much better friend for you. Not that you've ever had problems making friends.
If you get some time, I wouldn't mind a phone call or once of those fancy computer calls that we did that once. It was nice to see your face even if I did have to borrow Ryan's computer and he had to take care of it afterward. I'm sure that I could get a hold of it again if you'd like, after all, Ryan is a very understanding guy. Such a good child.
But now I've got to get going, I have a doctor's appointment that I've got to get ready for. I hope to hear from you soon.
Love,
Grandma Grant
P.S. As I'm sure that you've noticed, I enclosed some dark chocolate brownies for you to share with Ruth.
