PERSONALITY
Ever since he was a child, Henry has always had a very likeable type of personality. He's for sure never had issues making friends, and he's always a favorite with grown ups because he's such a respectable type of kid - there's no doubt his mother brought him up well, in spite of the hardships they encountered through his childhood. He's not an entirely selfless kind of guy, but he tries his best to put other people's needs in front of his own whenever possible. Sure, he has his moments when his own desires are what matter above someone else's, but that just makes him human. He's a responsible and serious guy when he needs to be, but he definitely has no issues turning on the party mode. He's very social and he loves being surrounded by large groups of people - in which, most of the time, he ends up being the center of attention.
For all he can go a bit more to the wild side on the weekends, when it comes to his studies, he puts all of his energy to make sure he does as good as he can. He knows his mom didn't make all the sacrifices she did for him to act like a screw up. He takes the time his studies need, and he doesn't rush through anything. He's not a straight A student, but he manages to keep a good average and he definitely doesn't worry about his future. He'd a bright guy, and he's very sharp as well - he's got a mind of his own, and he can be quite stubborn and hard headed. His opinions are not easily changed, and he's a great public speaker because of that, as he speaks in a manner that is compelling to others without seeming pushy.
Henry could for sure be described as a bit of a lady's man, but he's not a heart breaker. He's always been popular with girls, even in elementary school, if only because of his personality, and then when he hit puberty and his looks started to match up his charming ways, most of the girls around were about done for it. He's well aware of the kind of effect he can have on girls too, but in spite of that he never uses it to his advantage. He's not the type to toy around with a person, especially when there's feelings involved, and though he'd had a few flings here and there, he's more of a relationships kind of guy, especially as he gets older. He loves being able to get to know someone thoroughly, and his first relationship, during his Freshman year, lasted a little over a year. All in all, when it comes to the ladies, he's a charmer, but not a player.
APPEARANCE
There's a very good reason why Henry is a ladies' man, other than his charm, and that reason is the fact that his face is enough to make any girl want to jump him. His eyes blue gray eyes are made piercing by his ridiculously dark and long eyelashes, and his jaw looks like someone actually designed it. His lips are full and very skilled, and his straight nose completes the list of his perfect facial features. He has dark blonde hair, which he usually keeps short and styled, and a natural tan to his skin that hardly ever disappears, even in the winter. He usually keeps his face clean shaven, though he sometimes lets it grow to a short stubble before taking care of it.
He stands at a height of 6 feet and has a very muscular body type, which is kept that way by his working out habits. He makes sure to have a full, proper work out at least four times a week and he goes jogging for half an hour every morning, no matter the weather. He plays many sports, and just likes to keep in good shape in general. His clothing style is pretty casual, as his wardrobe mainly consists of jeans and t-shirts, and in spite of the fact that his mother had to have careful spending habits as he grew up, he's become a bit of a brand snob through his teenage years, now that he pays for his own clothes. He does own a few nicer articles of clothing for dates and other such outtings, but mostly he prefers to keep it simple.
HISTORY
As a teenager, Irene Blackburn had a lot expected of her. She was born and raised in River Oaks, one of the wealthiest communities of Texas and the United States located in the geographic center of Houston. She was given the best education in the hopes that she would have a good future, and especially make a good marriage. So when she accidentally got pregnant at age eighteen, a month before her high school graduation, things clearly did not go well. Her parents promptly kicked her out when she would not reveal who the father was, cutting her off and telling her to not even think of coming back to them. To add on top of it, her boyfriend had the time refused to take responsibility, claiming he couldn't be the father and saying he would have nothing to do with her or the baby. Instead of crumpling down like many would have done, she refused to be put down and knew she would have to do what was necessary to get a good life for her, and now her baby. She got all her money out of her savings account before her parents could lock or touch it, having full access to it now that she had turned eighteen, and she payed cash for a few nights at a cheap motel room as she looked for a two bedroom apartment to rent out, still in the Houston area.
Thanksfully, she sound found that she wasn't to be quite as alone as she had thought she would be. Her mother's parents, who had never approved of their daughter's marriage, soon managed to reach her and let her know that they would be there to help her as much as she needed. That knowledge was enough to give her another boost of confidence, and she started making the necessary preparations for the baby's coming. On the 16th of February 1993, she gave birth to a baby boy who she named Henry Jacob Blackburn, and from that moment on she started her single mother life. The extensive fund her parents had put aside for her helped get through the first few years with a minimal need for extra money, and as soon as Henry started school, she took the necessary steps to start back her own education. The following years of Henry's childhood were a bit more tough, and he missed his mother a lot as he would spend the majority of his time with his grandparents as she went through college with a part-time job on the side. He never resented his mother for her lack of presence at time though, knowing she did most everything for him, and he loved spending time at his grandparents' house. Granted, part of that was because they had a much more lavish lifestyle, and though Irene had tried to tell them not to spoil him too much, grandparents never listen to that.
She learned to accept it, and so she was hardly even annoyed when Henry greeted her one day as she came to pick him up with the bright flash of a digital camera, at age seven. She felt it was hardly necessary for a child this age to have something like that, but she soon found that she was wrong. Henry became fascinated with his new 'toy', and would take pictures of pretty much everything. He was nine when she graduated college, and he was the one who took pictures of the whole thing - and good pictures at that. His mother had already noticed a little while ago that his photography was more than just a hobby - he had a real talent for it, but if he were to be put through classes, she wanted to be the one who would do it for him. So, as she started working in her field as an interior decorator, she started putting a fixed amount of money aside with every paycheck, and on his tenth birthday, she gave him a new, professional camera and asked him if he wanted to take actual classes. He jumped on the idea instantly, and less than a month later he started taking photography classes twice a week, with the condition that he needed to keep his school grades up.
He kept going to those classes for a few more years, at some point during which his teacher suggested to his mom that he should take more advanced classes that would involve the type of techniques professional photographers learn in college. She declined the offer however, those classes being well over her budgets, and so instead he handed her a pamphlet for a few high school across the US, and a couple overseas, that would focus as much on academics as on arts, which could help him develop his skill even more. She didn't tell Henry about those for a week, doing some research on her side and wondering if it would be fair to even let him know about this when she wasn't sure she could send him to any of those schools. Finally, she narrowed it down to two schools that would offer a proper academic training so that photography didn't become the sole focus of his education, and schools that would offer a scholarship, one of them located in California, and the other one in Kansas City. She gave him the two pamphlets, told him he could take all the time he needed to think about it, and if one of those two schools really appealed to him, they could send out an application.
He took a couple of days to look into what both schools offered, doing some research of his own before going back to his mother and telling her he wanted to try and apply for Gordon Parks' Academy. She took a few days off of work, allowed him to take a couple of days off of school and they flew out to Kansas City to see the Academy and make sure it was everything they had read about. They came home satisfied with their visit, Irene reassured that he would be in a good environment, and Henry more excited than ever. That same day, they filled out his application together and sent it over. It took a little less than a month for a response to come through, saying he had been accepted on a full scholarship for the first two years. He promised his mother he would work as hard as possible to earn himself another scholarship for his Junior and Senior years, and when the summer before his Freshman year came around, they packed up his belongings together and she took a week off of work to go on a little road trip with him. She drove him over to Kansas City, had a bit of a tearful goodbye and then headed on home as he got settled where he would spend the next four years (hopefully) of his life.
