When Porter had gotten back to his room the night before, he was at a bit of a loss of what to do. He'd spent practically the whole night weighing what his options were and if it was a good idea or not to be involved with Jess when continuing to do so would - most likely - just make his feelings for her stronger and there was really no knowing as to what was going to happen. Added with the guilt that he had felt from the possibility that he could have actively done something stupid enough to get Jessica hurt because of the worry that he'd been feeling about her. Well, it had all added up to the unavoidable fact that the relationship that they had was probably better off if it dissolved sooner, rather than later. Which sucked, because for once in a long time he'd actually found himself feeling happier when he was with her, but for both him and her, it was probably better if they just called the dating thing a failed experiment. At least, that was what he was going to try and convince her of when he was face to face with her.
No denying that he was never top of the line boyfriend material, but he knew that such a conversation needed to take place face to face. Which had been why he had texted Jessica to ask if it was alright if he came over. He got the feeling that she probably had some sort of inkling as to what might be about to go down, but he could have been reading too much into things too. Whatever the case was, he'd gotten up and made his way over to the girl's dorm building. Amazingly (or not, if you thought about how the American public worked) despite the fact that there had been a security problem just the day before, he had no more difficulty making it into the girl's dormitory than he'd had in the past. And then it was only a few minutes longer before he was standing in front of Jess' door, knocking before he entered because entering a room without warning wasn't right by him. Then again, the last time he'd done that he'd seen his girlfriend riding his best friend, so maybe that was where the knocking thing had become so important.
