PERSONALITY
Eliana's name meaning reflects her personality extremely well; it means sun. She's a very bright, sunshiny girl that is most often seen smiling, even to people she hardly knows - which usually tends to get her to make more friends, because they often start talking to her, figuring they might have met her before but forgotten. Often, when she isn't actually smiling, it's because she's fallen into one of her frequent daydreams. She's an extremely dreamy girl who tends to get lost in her head, which isn't necessarily the best of things when she's in class - she often has to borrow notes from her friends or classmates because she misses a part of another of the lesson at least once in the year.
Very confident and trustworthy, Eliana is an open book - she can't keep anything about herself to herself. When it comes to other people's secrets, she'd take them to the grave, but her own always end up getting out at some point or another, which explains why most people know about her sexual orientation, which is not usually something that is talked of very much where she comes from. Extremely curious, this has often led her to get in trouble because she doesn't know where to stop and asks everything that goes through her head. She's a bit childish in that way, because it's as though her mind doesn't filter questions like it should. She's also very short tempered and stubborn, which can make her get into fights quite easily when things don't exactly go her way, but she's nowhere near vindictive and though anger comes fast to her, it also leaves very quickly, so it never lasts very long.
APPEARANCE
Standing at 5 feet 6 inches, Eliana was for a long time in the awkward stage of tall and lean, which often made her feel very uncomfortable when it came to her appearance. However, as she got a bit older, some curves started to appear in all the right places on her body and she finally got a look that made most boy's hormones go through the roof. Too bad she was actually attracted to girl herself. With curvy long brown hair that made her green eyes stand out, and pale skin that makes her look as though she's never before seen the sun, it's no wonder that heads turn when she walks by.
She's not one to really care about her appearance though, mainly because of the fact that she never considered herself all that attractive and so never did anything to work with it. She hardly ever puts on makeup, some eyeshadow and clear lipgloss is as far as she usually goes, and that's often on special occasions, unless her sister (who is a fashion freak) is around, then everything goes from foundation to mascara. She dresses in a nice but simple way, prefering jeans and t-shirts to anything really fancy, and when she does try she usually puts on a nicer shirt or a blouse or something of the sort. She avoids dresses and skirts as much as possible, not liking her legs enough to show them off.
HISTORY
Fourth born to Fillipe Conti and Adelina Valerio on the 18th of August 1990, Eliana was raised in the city of Catania, region of Sicily until she turned ten years old, when her mother died when giving birth to her very last child, which was the eighth. Her father, unwilling to take care of eight children on his own, only kept three of his sons, Dante, Nico and Vincenzo, and sent the other five to family members who agreed upon taking them. The newborn, Antonio, was sent to stay with his grandparents, staying in the neighborhood, while the four girls were divided among other relatives a little further away. The twins, Monica and Mirabella, went with their mother's sister in Florence, and the oldest girl, Lauretta, who didn't want to live with any person, decided to go live on her own, being nineteen years old.
However, Lauretta knew that Eliana's fate had not yet been decided since they hadn't heard yet from anybody who'd been asked to take her, and she was also aware that if nothing came of it, she would be most likely sent to any random family, anywhere in Italy. Being quite close to her younger sister, Lauretta decided to take her with her, not wanting her to be sent to anybody who she wouldn't know and who could be dangerous to her. She however had already made up her mind to go live in America, where her favorite aunt had moved a few years back, not with the intention of living with her, but at least knowing somebody there. She told Eliana about her plan, who asked for a little while to think of it, knowing what her options were but still rather scared of going to live somewhere that was not familiar to her, especially considering she knew very little english.
Finally, she decided that it was better if she accepted her sister's suggestion and moved to America with her, settling in the city of Portales, New Mexico. By the time she was thirteen, she was already completely fluent in English, which she'd learnt mainly by reading articles in arts magazines. Soon, the interest that'd grown into her from what she read changed into the need to put it to the test and she started drawing, painting, covering every single bit of paper she put her hands on with ink and color, at first mainly doodling some little drawings that weren't necessarily the best, but soon it was obvious that she'd improved a lot, and some day when her sister found a couple of things Eliana had done, looking at them one after the other without managing to tear her eyes away from them, she realized how good her little sister was. She started looking up some places where she could develop her talent even more, cringing more every time she found a new place that was more expensive than the previous one, and seeing as the very first had been too expensive for what she could afford, she was just about to give up hope.
However, once she met with Eliana's English Literature professor, she was told that her sister's grades would surely be enough to get her a scholarship to any school of her choice - Lauretta was a bit shocked, never really having payed much attention to her kid sister's grades seeing as she had enough problems getting a job that would keep them both out of the streets without having to borrow money, but she was definitely happy and excited when she told Eliana about it. Her sister's reaction was even more of a shock, however - she refused without an hesitation, saying she'd already been separated from the rest of the family and that now she wanted to send her away too. It took a while before Lauretta was able to convince Eliana that it had nothing to do about that and that she was talented and smart enough to get a real future for her own if she just accepted to at least look at the schools she'd found.
Eliana ignored the first few, but once she found about Gordon Parks', she couldn't deny her interest. She admitted after a little while that she wanted to go, and soon her application was sent and accepted. It was during her first year in Gordon Parks' that she realized, after being flirted with by a few people, that she wasn't attracted to any single guy that hovered around her, but that her eyes tended to drift to girls more often. It took her a while before admitting it, seeing as her upbringing condoned this kind of behavior, but when she realized that her sister wasn't as uptight as her parents could have been, she finally admitted to herself that she maybe wasn't the same as most other girls.
