PERSONALITY
Marchel is an extremely independent person. He has grown up as such, having to take care of himself a lot. He believes that his work is supposed to be done by him and when someone else offers to do it he never quite trusts them to get it done right. Which is probably why he usually just does it himself instead. His work is really one of the only things that he takes any sort of pride in because he knows that he'll get it done to the best of his ability. For that reason he had always been one to do his work first and play later. He isn't someone who will leave things to chance. Well, at least not important things to chance. He'll take little chances here and there with things that aren't usually entirely important but other than that he doesn't really trust the odds to be in his favor.
Despite his independent nature he actually happens to make friends quite easily, he is kind and gets along with most people once he gets to talking to them, he just isn't someone who will talk to the other person first. He likes to hang out with his friends and have fun just as much as any other teenager, he just has his head set on higher priorities at times. He won't give up his entire social life in his drive to do well but he won't blow off his work either. He's come up with a pretty good system of when to do his work and when to go out and have a bit of fun with his friends.
He is a bit quick tempered and can be set off by something pretty easily. Once he gets upset it will take a while for him to calm down about it. Usually, to avoid rash decisions, he'll end up just getting himself as far away from the situation or the person as he possibly can. When he isn't able to do so he'll try and hold back and usually end up testing the boundaries of his self control to their limits or at least very close to them.
Behind all of his hard work and appearance is really a need to want to please someone. His parents were always the first choice, trying to make them at least glance in his direction every now and then and acknowledge that he's done something well. When he was little he was able to take that desire to please and instead put it on the teachers who were more likely to be pleased with something that he did anyway. Now, he doesn't really have a specific person but just kind of hopes that sometime someone will notice that while he does do a good job most of the time it'd be nice to get at least a little recognition for it. He doesn't need it all the time but he just wants it from time to time.
APPEARANCE
Marchel stands at 6'2" and could be described to have a pretty athletic build from all the sports that he plays. He has dark black hair that he can't ever really decide how he wants to keep. He's had it a bit longer in the past, just to try it, he's had it shorter and spikier and shorter and curly. He hasn't really preferred any one over the other so most of the time he just kind of lets it go where it wants to and goes from there. He usually doesn't even take the time to run a brush through it in the morning - with the exception of when he had his longer hair - and instead just leaves it completely undisturbed. His brown eyes on are extremely expressive of his moods and it's how he gets given away most of the time because his voice is pretty good at concealing feelings.
At for his clothing style, it's pretty much the same situation with his hair. He acquires clothing from wherever, sometimes he buys it mostly he just finds stuff in his closet and he wears it. He prefers to be comfortable obviously, but there isn't much that isn't uncomfortable for him. He can be just as comfortable in formal clothes as casual clothes. For that reason his clothing style is pretty diverse.
HISTORY
Marchel Bryce Tate was born to parents William and Susanne Tate on January 21, 1991 in Burmingham, Alabama. He wasn't quite expected for the young couple who had just been married only ten months sooner. They had planned to have kids sometime in the future, of course, but they had been planning on a bit of alone time first. The two of them had just started their own bakery and the last thing that they'd been expecting was a little bundle of joy. They quickly decided that they'd go along with their plans anyway, just letting Susanne take a small brake to be with Marchel. After her small maternity leave they worked on finding a babysitter for him, who he spent most of his time with.
If there is one thing to be said about Marchel's childhood, it is that he has always seen a happy marriage between his parents. They always made time to spend with one another, putting a lot of effort into their marriage. In fact, they put a lot more attention on it than they did him. They went out a couple of times a week and stayed home a couple nights a week with Marchel. As he grew a bit older, there were more nights out a week and less time at home. They'd come home after he was already off to sleep and would wake up after he was gone to school. They'd always leave him notes of the chores that he had to do when he got home from school and sometimes he'd be allowed to go to the shop. Mostly though, he spent his time alone.
It was in this alone time that he actually managed to discover his passion for film. They did have a video camera laying around the house and one day he decided to play around a bit with it. He made up stories without having a lot to go on and turned them into films. Making these small and somewhat silly films became his favorite thing to do while he was alone. He knew there were classes and such to get better with film and so he talked to his parents to try and get him signed up. They agreed to let him join classes as long as he took care of his chores first and did all of his schoolwork. He thought that was fair enough and agreed to the terms, having loads of fun in film class learning as much as he could.
He learned about Gordon Parks' Academy for the Arts from his film teacher, who saw his potential and decided that he might actually take the steps to get there. Marchel was automatically excited about the idea and shared it with his parents, who weren't quite as excited about the idea. They came up with a variety of excuses why he shouldn't go to the school but despite their apparent disapproval he decided that he'd send in an application. He got the news back from school and shared it with his parents. They still tried to come up with reasons why he shouldn't go to the school, however with the parital scholarship that he got there wasn't a good enough reason for them to come up with that would keep him away from the school. So he packed his bags and made his way to the school.
