David had been wandering, emerged in his own thoughts. Thoughts of a life that now seemed so distant, almost like in another life. Thoughts when he had been part of a happy family, thoughts of a loving home. "No regrets..." he whispered remembering to himself it had been his decision to leave Portugal and even if he had stayed things wouldn't have been different or happier he'd still feel alone and unprotected at least now he was following his dream. Distant sounds caught his attention, he realized he was now in front of the Worlds of Fun Theme Park and that the sounds were not so distant at all. It had been he who was so deeply tangled in his thoughts that had blocked the world. It was like he was watching a movie now very, very low and even though he was inside the movie he was just a silent spectator.
Like bees to a hive, all the people were heading towards the park's gate. Families, families all over, happy families, big families, small families, happy families. Like he was being controlled by a force bigger than him, stronger than his own will, he found himself walking towards the gates. When buying the ticket he didn't even noticed that the guy who was selling them was checking him out. The world kept distant to him.
Inside the park he wandered once more, the place was relatively crowded though he could still walk without pushing anyone. David finally sat on a small bench and put his knees towards his chest and laid his head on them, watching the scenario. Children were running everywhere, parents hovering around them with careful looks but glowing with peace and love. "It seems so long ago... now everyday is a fight, no one to lay my head on and rest. Always fighting, always keeping a smile, always keeping my guard up, I'm so exhausted... will the future bring me peace at last or more suffering? Are some people just meant to be alone?" A tear gently ran down David's face.
After a while he felt something pushing his jeans, he looked down. A small boy was looking oddly at him. "Hello, young man." he said nicely and the kid pointed to a tree nearby. David looked in the direction and saw a balloon stuck on the tree, not very high. "I see, come I'll get you, your balloon back." Quickly David reached for the balloon, which had a smiling face "How ironic..." then he gave it to the little boy which went running to his parents. David just there stood looking at the boy and his family...
