Book Shopping (Kristina)

[Holly Hale]

Holly headed into the Barnes and Noble book store. She didn't have any good reads lately so she figured that she'd go and pick some up. Besides she felt like she needed to do some book shopping anyway. She did like to read from time to time, but she never really brought any of her books with her to school. She never really saw a point to it. After all she rarely had any time to read anyway, not with all the school work that she was always expected to do plus trying to keep a social life... she usually kept reading to the summers for that reason. It wouldn't hurt though to just swing by and see what was in the store and maybe add a few interesting books to her collection. Even if she didn't get to read them at school, she could always read them when she got back home. Plus she had a bit of extra money still that she felt like she wanted to do something with, going book shopping had seemed like a good solution to having the extra money.

Despite the fact that it was her fourth year at the school she'd never actually set foot into the Barnes and Noble that was located only a few blocks away from the Academy. So she had no idea where to even begin to find the section, she was looking for. After looking around for a few minutes though she'd pretty much figured out the store layout and she headed for the adult fiction section, which was a pretty large section, one of the larger ones in the store. She wasn't exactly sure what she was looking for, but she never was when it came to books. She usually just walked along until she saw something that caught her eye. She prefered to go straight down the line alphabetically too, because it was easier to keep track that way. Back home she'd make a trip or so every few weeks and just start over where she'd left off. However, this Barnes and Nobel store looked to have a larger selection than the one back in her home town did. So she figured that she'd best just start from the beginning.

She walked along the rows of books, seeing some that she'd already read and a few that didn't really look all that interesting. She'd bend down from time to time to look at the books on the bottom shelf better, and even a few times she'd pick a book up and examine it trying to decide if she liked it enough to buy it. She was walking through the 'L' author name section when she saw a book that caught her eye in the lower part of the shelf. She got down on her feet, almost crouching slightly as she picked up the book and read the back cover, not really paying attention to what was going on around her. The book looked like part of a series so she looked around and saw that there were a few others with similar covers and titles, well that and she noticed - with a bit of embarrassment - that the top of each of them claimed to be part of the same series. She picked up the first one in the line and flipped it over, reading the summary with interest.

Kristina walked into Barnes and Noble totally irritated by the fact her dancing shoes were not ready yet. She decided that she had pretty much looked at all the books in the other stores and decided to check out the selection here. She never really read that much while she was at school, but she always had to stock up for the summer. She did not have much of a social life even at her boarding school. She mainly danced. When she wasn't dancing she was either sleeping, studying, doing homework, eating, or talking to her few good friends. Reading was something that was pushed aside while she was at school. She like it that way. It gave her more to do in the summer where she had nothing to do but babysit. Now the twins didn't even need that.

She walked back to the adult section thinking she would start there. She never started in the teen section because it was boring. She went there for a last resort though. She looked at the books and started and the end of the alphabet. She skimmed though the shelves and picked up a few books and read the back. She put some back and others went into her arm. She looked up above her head and gladly didn't see anything. She hated reaching for books. It made her look stupid. She was a bit short and she had to jump to reach most of the books on the top shelf. She sighed and continued down the rows. She was not seeing that much. Usually she had more books than what she did. Then again last year was her first year and she did see a lot of books she had already bought. She sighed again.

She had a handful of books by the time she made it to the L section. That was when she noticed she was not alone. She almost tripped over a girl on the floor. A hot girl on the floor. She stopped just before making contact with her. Her breath caught in her throat. The blush came into her cheeks. She was not used to this kind of reaction to a girl. She got this way around guys but this is the first time in a long time it happened when she was around a girl. She breathed in and smiled. She took a step back and tried to act like she didn't almost mow over the girl on the floor. She buried her face with her hand and moved on. She hoped against all her unlucky odds that the hot girl wouldn't yell at her or something like that. Besides the major hotness of the girl she also looked older. Kristina groaned lightly as she realized that she just did the one thing she was trying to avoid this year. Embarrassing herself in front of a crush.

Holly had been looking at the book for several minutes, thumbing through a bit of it and reading it. She could see that she was going to end up buying the book already, but still she wanted to look through it a bit and get herself a bit of a teaser. She always did that with books, it helped her have something more to look forward to. She had a bad habit of looking at the last few pages, too. Not reading them really, but just skipping through for names and such. A lot of people she knew considered that cheating... she told them to shut the hell up every time they told her so. Usually people didn't comment much on what she did though, only her friends still made comments to her about things knowing already how she would react to them. With her friends she was as blunt as she was with anyone, but her sarcasm was more toned down. It was a give and take thing, most of her friends were happy to have her be even more blunt if it meant that she dropped some of the sarcasm.

She was stopped from her page flipping however when she noticed that a girl was standing very close, actually she also was toppling over her. She glanced up and saw that the girl was blushing as she backed away. She wasn't sure if she knew the girl but she did look a bit familiar, she looked like she was about sixteen or so. So she'd probably be a sophomore if she went to the academy, actually she'd be a sophomore even if she didn't go to the academy. But she was pretty sure that she'd seen her around the hallways before. She was slightly amused to see that the girl had buried her head in her hands and was trying to move on. Though she couldn't help but want to say something to her. After all she'd almost been plowed over, plus she wanted to get a better look at the girl and see if she was just imagining possibly knowing her or not.

"Hey!" she called after her, breaking the silence in the book store. It was almost a library in there, except she wasn't going to get yelled at for yelling... well probably not anyway. Either way she could care less. "You there, the one who almost plowed me over." She had to distinguish her in some way because people were starting to stare at her. A few of them were still staring actually. "What are you looking at?" she asked, raising an eyebrow as she stood up and started walking after the girl with her book in hand. She caught up to her within about half a minute and didn't waste time in saying something. "Maybe you should be a bit more careful about watching where you're going," she said bluntly. Though it wasn't suppose to sound mean, it kind of came off that way. She didn't bother to correct herself though.

Kristina sighed as she stepped to the side. She did not want to be called out. She just didn't want to deal with it. She knew that it was more than likely going to happen, but that did not stop her from trying to run away. She didn't like what she just did. Then again who would. She took another slow step away from the girl and then another. She was planing on making it to the end of the book shelve into the aisle and then speed up to the counter to buy her book and leave. All as fast as she could without making it obvious that was what she was doing. Running. She hated feeling like a chicken, but seriously she just might have ruined her dancing reputation. Dancers are supposed to be graceful and skilled. Kristina could be all that on the dance floors. Anywhere else and she had some honest problems. She looked at the girl and took another slow but deliberate step away from her. She just told herself that it was all going to be OK. As she slowly took another step away.

Kristina froze when she heard the girl talk. Well it was actually a yell. She sighed and turned to face her. She was closer than Kristina had planned. She tried not to show the surprise she felt. She could feel the blush returning warmer and brighter than before. She bit her lip and tried to make the warmness in her cheeks go away. The girl was hot and smelt nice. She seemed a bit rough though. Considering she just yelled at a stranger for staring when she was the one who had made all the racket. Kristina tried to hide the smile she felt trying to cross her lips. She had the feeling that this girl whoever she was had a very strong opinion. Besides the fact that she called her the girl that almost plowed her over, Kristina still felt drawn to her. Maybe it was the looks or maybe it was the self confidence. Either way backing out now was not an option. She had to be strong and take the punishment.

"I'm sorry about that." She said in a whisper. Even in the whisper her voice broke. "Really I am. I just was so into looking for a book that I didn't see you." She knew that it was a pathetic excuse but it was all she had. She looked at her shoes and kicked the imaginary dust around. "I guess I should be more attentive." She said more to herself than to the girl. She sighed and started to turn away again. She didn't know if the girl even planned for her to talk to her. She had apologized and she hoped the girl knew she meant it. She didn't know what else to do. She was beginning to think that running away with her tail between her legs was a very strong option right now. For some reason she didn't. She turned to face the girl again. This time the blush was almost gone and her face looked determined. "I am Kristina. I am sorry that I almost tripped over you, but there was no need to sound so rude." She smiled, on the outside. Her insides where screaming. Where in the heck did that come from? She asked herself. She silently made a mental note to kick herself if this turned out badly.

Holly saw her turn around and couldn't help but notice the blush that was on the girl's cheeks. She wondered for a minute why it would be there, but thought that it was just perhaps that the girl was an easy blusher, which was a possibility. Those types of people blushed over almost doing if there was a need for it. They didn't like being called out in the slightest. Something that she really couldn't understand herself. She didn't like attention that much herself, but she never thought that there was a need to be embarrassed because of it. After all people were going to pay attention to who they wanted to anyway. There wasn't a need for it to be a bad thing, instead when she was in the spotlight she either did one of those things. First, she'd usually make a little something of it, just to see what she could do and hear what crazy things her actions would be turned into. That or she'd just raise her eyebrows and the people surrounding her and ask what their problems were. She was more partial to the first option, because for her it was just more fun. There was an element of fun to having people being afraid of her. It was actually something that she prided herself on a bit.

She was a bit surprised, however, to hear Kristina's voice break even in her whisper. Although she did in fact have a bit of pride in her reputation that she'd built up the reaction to something that she said was rarely so strong. She had a feeling that the girl didn't have much self confidence. Not only by the way that she held herself, but by the way that she was reacting to the whole situation in general. It would have explained her easy blush as well. She usually had a thing sort of against people with low self confidence, which was that they rarely stood up for themselves and allowed people to walk all over them. She always wanted to shake those people and ask them exactly what it was that they were thinking. Lack of self-confidence wasn't exactly something that she found attractive in a person. She usually wished to help those people, but knew that she couldn't even if she tried because those were the types of people that liked to avoid her anyway. She watched as the girl apologized again and mentioned something to herself before she went to go and turn around.

She sighed and turned around to look at the bookshelf that was closest. She looked through the books with a bit of interest as she saw some promising titles. She picked one up, setting her book that she was going to get on the ground next to her. She looked up in real surprise however when she heard the girl start talking again. Maybe she'd been wrong about her after all, she looked at the girl for a minute as if examining her. Then she seemed to make a decision, her face didn't betray any emotion and the earlier surprise was absent as well. "So tell me Kristina," she said, standing up and grabbing her book, leaning against the shelf slightly as she raised an eyebrow. "What year are you at the Academy?" She knew that there was a chance that her instincts were wrong and it was just a girl from around the area, but it wouldn't hurt to ask anyway.

Once Kristina gained her confidence she didn't lose it. She didn't know why that was the way it was it just was. It never made sense to her. She often lost track of where she was and what emotion she was feeling at that current time. It wasn't until later she realized that she may have done something stupid. Sometimes it turned out nicely. Other times, well it turned out really bad. The weirdest things is though even if she wants to kick herself she never regrets her actions. She is one of those people that think living life in the moment is the only way to truly live. She sighed as she thought about some of the stupid things she did. Then she smiled at the fact that everything always seemed to work out. She was an impulse reactor when it came to her brain and mouth.

She does seem shy right off the bat. Actually she is shy. When you catch her off guard she is easy to blush and mumble. She gets emotional for a little while before solving the problem and gaining her confidence. She doesn't have a super strong back bone, but it's there. She will stand up for herself. Only when the time is necessary. Kristina thinks it better to let people think what they want to. It never meant much to her. People will think as they please, and if you wasted all your time making them happy, you would never find joy. That is hard to do at times. Like now for instance. She is standing in front of a beautiful girl and she is trying not to care if the hottie thinks she is a complete loser. That to her qualifies as not an easy task. Then again maybe that was just her.

"I am a sophomore." She replied coolly. She had a small smirk on her lips. "Do I get to your name and grade?" She asked. She was trying to play it cool. She honestly thought it was working. Then again maybe it wasn't. Sometimes her mind plays tricks on her. She smiled as she looked at the book shelves around her. She didn't know how this crazy girl was going to respond. If she responded. Kristina was just going to act like she didn't care. While looking at the books she examined the girl's posture. She seemed to not care how this went. Maybe even not interested in this conversation at all. Kristina was not about to do the same thing as she is, because that would be embarrassing and make her look like a copy cat. Instead she put her weight on foot and crossed her arms under her chest. She was relaxed.

Holly looked at Kristina and couldn't help but wonder if the girl was just acting the way that she was. It seemed to be a complete turn around from what she was acting like just a few minutes ago. She wondered what exactly had caused the change in the girl. There wasn't any reason that could see, but she figured that she'd just go along with it and the longer the did that she might actually uncover some answers. But she could have sworn that the girl had changed one hundred and eighty degrees, there was no blush on her cheeks nor did her voice sound anything close to breaking. It was strong and loud and confident, as was the smirk that was set upon her face. This girl was obviously going to be very baffling.

"Yeah, you can get my name and grade," she answered with a nod, her voice just as cool as Kristina's though she didn't have to try for it. It was just something that came naturally. "I'm Holly. Holly Edwards and I'm a Senior." She decided that the best way to figure out what had happened to the girl to cause the sudden emotion was to strike up a sudden conversation and see if she went back to the way that she'd been acting earlier. Or if she switched to a completely new and different emotion. "I'm a film student by the way," she said. "What is your talent?" She was leaning slightly toward theater at that point in time because of the way that she seemed to be able to change moods so quickly. It'd make sense, she could imagine that she'd probably be a pretty good actress. Especially if she was just putting on an act right then.

She looked over the girl. Trying to figure out how she felt about her physical appearance and decided that she was actually very pretty. She didn't look like a lot of girls that were at the Academy, though they had people from different countries at the academy, most of the girls ended up looking similar most times. It was really something that could be helped of course, but still Kristina had an almost exotic look about her. But that probably was because she was in a way, she couldn't hear any accent on the her so she'd probably been born and raised in the United States but perhaps her parents had come over from another country over in Asia and had her there. Either way, it didn't change that she was an attractive person, even if she did seem to have some serious mood swings.

Kristina sort of caught the girl looking at her. She still seemed to not care, but there was something more. Something Kristina couldn't put her finger on. Like the girl was thinking about something. That made Kristina try to think of the actions she had made. She had to admit that she must seem really weird at this point. She went from shy and bashful to confident. She was going to find out if this chick was interested in chicks so maybe she could had flirtatious into the mix. Although she didn't know many people that swung that way. She was very unique in that sense. Not to mention the fact Kristina's door swung both ways. OK admittedly Kristina was an odd person but sometimes that just drew people in. They wanted to see what she was going to do next. Kristina understood that.

Kristina tried to hide her shock when she found out the hottie, Holly was a Senior. That made all the chances of Kristina flirting with her go out of her mind. There was no chance that even if she did swing that way she would go for a Sophomore like herself. She stifled a sigh and tried to stay cool. "I would not have been able to guess your name in a million years." She said it simply, like it was a fact. It was, for her. She smiled as she thought about how that sounded. She didn't fix it either. "I am a dancer." She said it very proudly. She loved dancing, and she loved being able to say that was what she was. She had a passion for what she did. She usually always did otherwise she wouldn't do it. That was just the way she was.

Kristina sighed. She took another look at Holly. She was very pretty. She was blond and just pretty. Kristina could not say how or why. She just was. Kristina had the faint feeling that Holly was looking her over as well. She had no way prove to that so she just assumed she was being paranoid, or maybe hopeful. It was not an easy thing to tell anyways. It wasn't like Holly was looking her up and down as most people did. In fact Holly still seemed uninterested in this whole conversation. Kristina wished she could pull that off. Acting like you didn't care. She seemed cool to her. She was just kind of standing there with her arms crossed with a small smirk on her lips. She thought it was cool. Not as cool as Holly looked. She wished she could have the same appeal as the hottie before her did. She mentally shrugged and let the envy pass. Kristina just hoped that maybe she would be appealing to Holly.

"Yeah I know most people wouldn't guess that someone like me would have a name like mine," Holly said with a shrug in response to Kristina's comment. It was true, people always imagined her to have a different name, something a bit more tough or bold or something. Not something so sweet and wholesome. It was almost ironic. "Most people also don't think that a person who looks like me would act like me either." For some reason people tended to relate All American Girl with her, which always made her laugh out loud. Holly an All American type? Psh! As if! She was anything but. "For some reason people expect me to be sweet and innocent and ditzy. Or one of those All American Girl type girls. Let me tell you something flat out Kristina, I'm not. Not in the slightest." She figured that the girl may have guessed it already, but it was always best just to confirm what people were already thinking. That way they could know without assuming or asking about it.

She noticed that when she told her that she was a dancer she seemed to have some pride in the fact. She'd never actually seen the girl dance, but to get into the school you had to be pretty damn good in the first place. So she probably was, but that was just an assumption. Maybe sometime she'd actually have to go see her to see if her assumption was correct. She wasn't about to tell her that though. Crazy little sophomore that she was, she'd probably think something of it. She'd noticed the way that the girl had been looking at her and she was pretty sure that she'd been checking her out. Which wasn't something she was all that used to lately. She wondered if she'd just been imaging things though, people did look other people up and down quite commonly it was true. And those people could just be taking in a person's appearance, they didn't have to be checking them out because they liked them.

"So tell me Kristina," she said, her tone having a hint of curiosity sparking behind it. Though it was well concealed, it could have easily been confused with another emotion. Maybe boredom or sharpness. It was funny how all three were so different yet they managed to sound all a like. "Why is it that you act differently all of a sudden?" She raised one of her eyebrows at her questionably, waiting for an answer. She figured that she'd best explain herself a bit better first though that way there wasn't going to be any of those 'What do you mean?' questions. "At first you seemed kind of shy and scared but now you seem all cool and confident. Do you care to explain why that is?" she asked. "Or are you just going to leave me to wonder? I'm curious as to why the sudden change though."

Kristina listened to Holly talk. It made sense to her. She really did look like an all American girl. Holly was obvious not one. Kristina had already guessed that much. Most all American girls did not randomly ask people what they were staring at when they were making all the noise. Although that did make Kristina smirk. It was something that she did once. She then felt bad and didn't do it again. "I can see why people would come to those conclusions." Kristina said almost flirtatiously. It was hidden though. She might have been mistaken for bored. "It's not hard to see you are anything but that though." She put in trying not to sound flirty. She might have failed. Kristina often does. She tries to hide what she is thinking but her tone of voice or body emotions give her away.

Kristina was trying to remember if she had seen any films by Holly. She couldn't tell if she had. Normally she paid no attention to the names. She thought it better that way. It stopped any judgment of the person to affect the judgment of the movie. She sadly wished she had paid more attention now. Then again maybe she doesn't. She often confused herself with trying to pick the best movies enough as it is and she just assumed that names would mess her up. Even now. She wasn't about to ask Holly if she ever showed some of her movies. No, that would make it obvious she was curious about this girl. After all she was trying to play it cool. She tried to do that often. She pushed her curiosity to the back of her mind. She promised herself she would look on the school website and see if they had anything. If the school had a website.

Kristina's reply to the question was a sheepish grin. She hadn't realized that Holly was going to ask. "I shouldn't tell you and make you think I am mysterious." Kristina said with a smirk on her face. She usually didn't play games. She hated them. She was willing to play a game with Holly though. "I will tell you. Only because I am that nice." She said with honesty ringing in her voice. She really was a nice person. "You just caught me off guard. I am usually not yelled at in a book store. I was just surprised. Once I got over the shock I became confident. I guess." She wished she had some cool story to say, but she didn't. She just had the truth. The truth will set you free. She went by that. She lived like that. She honestly liked it that way. When you are honest life is easier. Mainly because there are no stories you have to keep straight.

Holly thought that she heard something more in Kristina's voice when she told her that she could see how people could come to the conclusions that they did about her and then added the last part about it being easy to see that she was nothing like what people made her out to be. She gave her a small smile of thanks, but something had caught her off guard. Something that was a little bit surprising, she thought that it might have been... flirtation. But that seemed almost impossible and very unlikely. After all, it wasn't like it was something that she'd been expecting from the girl. It caught her off guard, more than just slightly. But she could have been wrong, that was always a possibility and there was a chance - a pretty good one - that she was just hearing things. She wished people would just be a bit more blunt about what they were or were not doing, like she was. People at least always understood what point she was trying to get across. There was none of that wishy washy could possibly be nonsense.

She waited for how she was going to reply to the question that she'd asked and watched confusedly as a sheepish grin appeared on her face. However, that wasn't anything compared to once she started to speak, again. The girl got more and more confusing the more she spoke, she soon learned as she opened her mouth again. She was making her head go around in circles. It was amazing really, she couldn't remember the last time that someone's logic had confused her so much. It was almost scary. First the girl acted shy and awkward than cool and collected then she was trying to act flirtatious, still was a bit by her comment but the smirk was back. And then pure honesty. She was surprised that her head wasn't spinning in circles from her. She could swear that the girl had multiple personalities or something of the sort. That or she was just really really fickle, because Kristina couldn't seem to pick exactly which emotion that she wanted to settle on. Part of her wished that she would have just gone back to book searching.

Her answer to the question was simple enough and she supposed that it made sense. And now that the question was answered she thought about just leaving and letting the girl go back to her own business. However, there was a small part of her that couldn't help but want to keep talking to her. There was something about her that was hard to keep from being curious about. Even though she worried her slightly she couldn't help herself. She wanted to get to know a bit more about her, though there wasn't a logical reason for it. "So Kristina have you found any books that you like?" she asked. It was sort of a lame question, but oh well. She wouldn't think of anything else to say.

Kristina couldn't help but notice she made Holly think. She might not have been that good at hiding the flirtatious tone. She didn't if she just want to be blunt or ignore the whole thing and push her feeling into a box. She didn't do that often. She actually hated doing that. Sometimes it was necessary. Like now when she didn't know how Holly was going to react if she told her she was super cute. She didn't know if Holly would freak out on her. After all there were not that many people like Kristina out there. Therefore she felt a need to protect herself. She sighed lightly and almost inaudibly. She really did wish she was just straight. Live would be so much easier if she were. Kristina was open with her bi-ness just not when she first meets a person. Especially if she is attracted to the girl.

Kristina sighed. She was such a confusing person. She felt bad for Holly. She was probably really confused by now. She didn't know what to say though. It wasn't like she could just come out and say 'Hey I am sorry for being so confusing and random.' She shrugged mentally. Hopefully one of these days Kristina would be able to control her mood swings. She was often told that talking to her was like riding a roller coaster. With all the ups and downs and random turns. Kristina didn't really mind being this way until she realized that it could be very confusing. Maybe if she could control herself she could have more friends. After all there were people who honestly didn't like roller coasters. Kristina considered most of those people to be boring, but hey what ever floats their boat she supposed.

Kristina was caught off guard by the book question. It was kind of lame for such an extreme girl like Holly. She looked at her stack in her arms and blushed lightly. "Well yes I have found quite a few." She decided she mine as well tell the truth. "This one is about vampires." She pointed to the book on the top of the stack. "This one is about witches and wizards." She pointed to the next one down. "This one is about lesbians." She pointed to the third one down. "This one is about gay guys in the army and how their love survives an actual war." She pointed to the second to last one. "This last one is about bi-sexuals and the troubles they go through in life because of the ridicule we-they have to go through." She decided that maybe if she ignored her own little slip up so would Holly. Not that she cared if she knew. OK she did. Kristina cared a lot. Her face stayed composed though. "What about you? Any luck so far?" She asked with a polite smile on her face.

Holly watched Kristina before she answered the question and found that apparently the younger girl found the books that she was getting embarrassing or something because a blush colored her cheeks once more. And then she made the completely obvious statement that she had quite a few books. She had eyes, she could see. She almost couldn't restrain the sarcasm that was boiling on the tip of her tongue, actually she couldn't but she made sure that she said it quietly so that the girl who was already blushing wouldn't feel worse about herself. "No you don't have any books," she quietly said to herself, rolling her eyes as she did. She hated people who stated the obvious. It was a waste of her time and a waste of breath. People had much better things to do than sit around and talk about things that she already knew. That both of them already knew by simply looking down at her arms and seeing the books that were there.

She listened to the different books that she gave the very briefest summary about. The first two were about mythical creatures, something that she would read sometimes she supposed. But she usually didn't prefer fantasy when she had the choice. She listened as she went on about the other books she had. Romance. Not quite the traditional romance though. She couldn't help but notice the slip up the girl made. So she was bi-sexual, that was an interesting piece of information. She wouldn't have pinned the girl for it actually. She looked like one of those girls that was extremely innocent. She didn't know what made her arrive to that conclusion, maybe it was her easy blushes and the way she reacted when they first started talking. Holly had a bad habit of holding unto first impressions. So if she didn't like someone the first time that she meant them, they were pretty much screwed. It was very rare that she actually changed her mind from the first time they spoke.

"Me?" she repeated the question and glanced down at the book that she had found. "Well as you can see I only have one in my hand right now but it looks pretty good." She glanced at the back cover again quickly summing up the book. "It's a thriller. Basically it follows the same story lines as most other thrillers will I'm guessing. The girl is the main suspect in a murder case and has to try and prove her innocence." she shrugged. So the story was a bit overused but still she was curious about it. She was someone who surprisingly liked things that were easily predictable. Something that shocked most people when they first found out about it. After all, most people thought that she was likely to just make fun of them. It would have made more sense in the way that she usually reacted. Oh well, she couldn't have people knowing everything about her without there being a few surprises along the way. What fun would that be?

Kristina heard the sarcasm and almost smiled. She thought it was funny when people were being sarcastic. It kind of showed that they had a sense of humor since most sarcasm was meant to be funny and point out the obvious in a sort of rude way. Kristina was much to used to sarcasm and there for it did not bother her one bit that Holly was using it on her. In fact she found it even more appealing. It reminded her that most people are the same and always there is someone like them out there. She smiled as she thought about all the sarcastic comments she had gotten over the year and whom they had come from. Most of the time they came from her friends. They were usually just being silly. Although the times they came from her little sister, well that kind of hurts a little. She shrugged again.

Kristina smiled innocently. Most people saw her that way anyhow, innocent. That really wasn't the case. OK most of the time it was the case. Not always though. Like her Bi-ness was one of the major things that called out her darker side. She usually tried to stay in the light, because life is easier when you don't get in a lot of trouble. Although life was more fun when you were doing things you know you shouldn't be doing. She smirked as she remembered her first kiss with a girl. She knew it was wrong in so many ways, but it just felt so right. She smiled as the warm feeling filled her up again. That was just a couple months ago. She never did see that girl again after the party at which they met and kissed, but that fateful girl took away much of Kristina's assumed innocence. Not that Kristina minded.

"Oh well yeah I see that." She shrugged. She listened as she described the book. She happened to like those kind of books. She looked at the cover and smiled. "I read that book." She sighed and leaned toward the girl. "It is not as typical as you think." She smiled as she remembered what she had read. It was an interesting book. "I think that book is with me at the Academy if you would like to borrow it and read it before you pay for it." She smiled. She was trying to be nice. She didn't know if that set her off balance with Holly or not. She didn't care though. She liked being a nice person. Sometimes it was a hard thing to do, but she also enjoyed the challenge of doing the right thing. She smiled again and then went back to playing it cool. Leaning away from her into the original stance she had. She still had a smile on her face though. She liked talking to Holly, even if it was about stupid things.

Thinking about first impressions made Holly wonder what kind of first impression she'd made on the girl in front of her. It probably wasn't a good one, otherwise the sophomore wouldn't have been scared of her when she came after her. Then again, Holly never made good first impressions on people. Once she opened her mouth most people seemed to be scared away, and she could understand why. If she saw it from a strangers perspective, she wouldn't be the best person to just approach randomly. Especially not if they were new trying to make friends or something of the sort. It wasn't that she tried to be rude or whatever else it was that other people said about her, it was just that was part of who she was. If people found it rude it was their own problem, she'd told the same exact thing to her twin sister many a times when she made comments about how rude Holly had been to so and so. And when her parents tried to lecture her she usually just rolled her eyes and walked away, they'd actually given up on that hopeless cause by now.

Well apparently, Kristina wasn't one to hold onto first impressions because the girl just offered to lend her a book so that she wouldn't have to buy it first. Or maybe she didn't have the same first impression of Holly as she'd thought that she'd had. Which would be a shocker, but still it was a bit weird for her to make her an offer like that. And to be honest, she had no idea how to feel about that, it was a rare thing that a stranger did something like that with her. It all led back to the first impression thing again. Maybe, the girl was more bold than she gave her credit for. After all, she barely knew her, so it wasn't like she could actually have an accurate judging of her yet. Still, she wasn't sure that she was going to accept her offer. Another idea was starting in her head, that possibly maybe the younger girl could want to be her friend or something of the sort, or maybe a little more. She couldn't tell, either way she didn't know how to feel about either option.

She was going to turn down her offer - she decided. That was mostly because she liked to own books anyway, even if she hated them after she read them it was still nice to have them in her possession. A lot of times Milo ended up stealing her books anyway, even the one's that she hated. It was just plain weird, she could tell him how much she hated the book for half an hour and he'd still ask to read it. He never had the same opinion either, maybe it had something to do with being a writer. She and he never had the same ideas about films either, probably because they could each appreciate parts of films and books that the other couldn't because they knew more about the subject or whatever. "That's a nice offer," she said. "But I think that I'm probably just going to buy it anyway." She glanced at her watch, she had to get going if she was going to be able finish her homework, or at least start on it. "Look Kristina it was nice to meet you, but I've really got to be going. Maybe I'll see you around sometime." She gave her a small half smile before she headed out of the store.
