PERSONALITY
Vanessa, Nessa for friends, is a very down to earth girl, very serious and naturally calm. It takes her a lot to get angry, even when she's having an argument with someone - she'll usually keep a quiet voice and a straight face, which tends to infuriate the other person a lot more. She does get very angry whenever someone does something that goes against her personal convictions or attacks her beliefs, but most of the time she's able enough to keep her cool in an attempt to solve any kind of problem in a fashion that won't get anyone to get even more upset than they already are. She's a very bright girl, and she takes a lot of time to learn something to the best of her abilities, even when she totally hates it - she figures that the best way to spend less time on something she doesn't like is to know it well, so that it can be done quickly and without any trouble. She is very methodical with her habits, and she plans her days ahead of time to make sure she can make the most of it.
Aside from art, environment is without a doubt her biggest passion. A lot of the stuff she buys is second hand, and since she doesn't really have much skill in sewing to make her own clothes - though she's tried before - she tries to get her things from stores which she know also respect the environment. She's very big on recycling and reusing things, and she never throws away something which she knows could be of some use. Through the years, she's donated many items to good will and people in need, and she always tries to give back whatever she can to the society no matter how. She's also a big animal lover, and though she's sometimes eaten meat in her youth, it was a personal decision to give up eating any sort of animal product as she grew older, which caused her to learn how to cook rather young since her parents, though they didn't forbid her or try to change her mind on it, didn't want to go along with her eating habits, though they didn't eat a lot of meat themselves.
She has a very open minded personality, and she's not one to hide who she is, what she's like. The moment she figured out that she had as much attraction toward girls as toward boys, she talked to her parents about it, partly because she wasn't too sure of what it meant, but also because she just doesn't hide anything from people she love, and on a regular basis, she doesn't hide anything at all. She's very much at ease with who she is and with her body, as well as with her sexuality. She will try everything at least once, and she tends to dissociate sex from love - she knows that the mix of the two can create something beautiful and much stronger, and probably also more pleasurable, but she doesn't want to be stopped from experimenting either just because she might be lacking certain types of feeling toward someone she feels a physical attraction to.
APPEARANCE
Standing at an average height of five feet six inches, Nessa has looks that have made quite a few people give double takes as she walked by. With her long flowing blonde hair which she almost always keep down and her warm chocolate brown eyes, full pink lips and soft pale skin, she does look mostly like any average American girl, nothing really that would make her stand out in a crowd or make her look out of the ordinary, but it's not so much her appearance as the way she holds herself that gets other people's attention. Her body is slender, but full of the curves just in the right places, toned in the way an athletic person's would be.
Her clothing style is mostly focused on comfort rather than fashion. She doesn't care much for following a trend or even looking at her best as long as she feels good with what she's wearing. Long flowing skirts, loose shirts, jeans and sweatpants, t-shirts, tank tops, really anything that doesn't make her feel like she's stuck in her clothes rather than wearing them. She wears absolutely no makeup, the thought of it has never even crossed her mind. As for shoes, she wears either sneakers or flats, or flip flops in the summer, but whenever she can, she goes about barefoot. As for accessories, she usually goes for long necklaces that almost reach her stomach and bangling bracelets. She also loves wearing large hats in the summer, and sunglasses all year long.
HISTORY
Vanessa Heather Lewis was born in the city of Sparks, Nevada, on the morning of the 29th of November 1994, the first and only daughter born to Jonathan Lewis and Michelle Irving. Michelle's pregnancy had not been planned, the couple having only been together for a few months, but they were happy still with the arrival of the little girl, and they were lucky enough that the added responsibility and stress of a young child didn't add any strain to their still tentative relationship to the point of breaking it off. Maybe, however, that had something to do with their way of living, being both very grounded people and sharing their ideals of life. Jonathan had been raised by parents who lived in the free loving life style of the sixties, and he was lucky enough to find, in Michelle, a woman who went along with the same kind of beliefs and hopes for the future as he did.
They had both never really planned on having children, not certain that their way of living was very proper for a child - they had met in a nudist colony, situated by Lake Tahoe in Nevada - but upon meeting several families who went along to those places with their children, they realized that it was possible for their child to grow in that kind of an environment and still be healthy, happy and well. And so for the most part of her childhood, Vanessa grew in a community of naturists, home schooled by her mother, loving the freedom she was offered and the life she was living. One of the skills that Michelle noticed very early on in her daughter was her talent for arts. Whenever given a crayon or a coloring pencil of any kind, she would start drawing whatever it was that was in sight. A flower, an animal, even a person - she never went through the stick figure period of childhood art - to the point where the little girl's mother decided she didn't only have talent - she had a gift.
Michelle decided to start looking for classes for the young girl to follow, which Jonathan agreed to easily, but as Vanessa started making friends outside of the colony, she started realizing that her life wasn't quite as normal as she'd through it to be, especially from the weird looks her friends gave her whenever she tried to explain what the place she lived in was like. Her parents noticed how troubled their young daughter seemed to be, and upon receiving explanations, they decided that maybe it would be good to give her a look at a different kind of life style she could have. They did not want her to make decisions for her future based on what other people told her was normal or weird, they wanted her to make her own decisions based on what she really wanted for herself, no matter what that was, even if if meant giving up what they had grown used to themselves.
They went looking for a small house in a good neighborhood, Jonathan found a job easily enough - having gone through many years of studies in his youth before deciding to try out something different - and Vanessa was sent to a public school nearby. She didn't regret her old life style any more than she adored her new one - she'd been content for the first part of her childhood, but she was just as content now, and one thing she loved above all was the art classes. Her professor didn't take long to notice that her talent was rather uncommon at such a young age, giving her more assignments and tips, and even at school she was found to have a behavior that wasn't quite the same as her classmates, much more applied to her work and very serious with her studies, which earned her very good grades, even in classes she wasn't too fond of.
It was her art teacher that came up with the idea of Gordon Parks' Academy, though her parents were more excited over the idea than she was at first, not too sure that she wanted to leave far away for almost four full years, save summer and winter holidays. It took her a few weeks to decide what she wanted to do, and after many talks with her parents and realizing what kind of an opportunity she might be given at this school, she sent her application along with a portfolio of her art, and merely three weeks later she found that she was accepted on a full scholarship for the four years to come.
