PERSONALITY
The meaning of Samantha’s name embodies her personality very well - listener. Growing up with six older brothers and sisters, she somehow fell into the role of outlet, her siblings usually coming into her room at odd hours of the day to vent out their problems and frustrations to her, not really expecting advise from a little girl, but just to have someone who would listen and she did so without complaint liking the fact that she got some sort of attention from her siblings. This molded her to become the person she is today. Samantha is an extremely laid back individual, taking things with a grain of salt before she decides if it’s worth the stress and worry. She’s very compassionate, always putting the needs of others before her own, liking the rewarding feeling of making someone happy. There’s a sort of regal air about her in the way she carries herself and how she talks, but her personality is far from that.
She’s a free spirit. Things like punctuality, precautions, consequences and any other kind of minor inhibition is of no concern to her independency. She doesn’t like to feel shackled by any sort of limitations that might help her grow as a person. She takes negativity and turns it positive without so much as feeling bad over it, but instead works it to her advantage. Because of her strong desire for independence, Samantha likes to be left sometimes. It doesn’t mean though, that she hates to be left alone. Education is something that’s important to her. Despite coming from a somewhat hectic and crowded household, her parents still expected the best of out their children especially when it came to school. They were very strict when it came to that are of childhood, wanting nothing, but honor grades and punishment given if there was anything lower. She’s very studious because of this and is extremely bright, often the one with her hand up in the first when in class.
Samantha can be your best friend or your worst enemy. She’s not in any way mean or a bitch, but she’s not gullible or naïve either. To her, having friends is all about the foundation of trust and loyalty. She takes friendship seriously and will remain by your side until hell freezes over. Gossip, she feels, destroys people and doesn’t like to take any part of it. Privacy is privacy for a reason and so she finds no need to nitpick at a person’s personal choices or what they do in their spare time. When it comes to the opposite sex, Samantha doesn’t have very much experience. Actually, she has none. There were a few crushes once the whole ‘guys have cooties’ phase was over, but nothing to the point of being even remotely serious.
APPEARANCE
Samantha doesn’t see herself as either beautiful or ugly. She knows she’s rather more average looking and is content with that knowledge. Standing at the height 5’3, she’s a good weight for her age, but still feels at times the need to lose a little extra. Her round face is sprinkled with freckles while the rest of her porcelain like pale skin remains unmarred. She has long hair that flows just below her shoulders in a rich chestnut color that clashes quite strikingly against her complexion. Her eyes are a piercing steel grey and her lips, pout and plump.
Her style of clothing is unfortunately rather pathetic. There aren’t a lot of choices she can pick from although she’s rather fond of the boho chic look. Most of her wardrobe consists of hand me downs from her older sisters, so it’s really hard to look nice and stylish when there is obvious wear and tear in her clothing before she even puts it on. She doesn’t have a brand new outfit to wear every day, but she tries to mix match what does have to create a new look. The amount accessories are just as limited and so are the number of pairs of shoes and sandals.
HISTORY
Samantha was born on the way to the hospital in the back of an ambulance in the late night hours of June 20, 1994 to Kate and Nick Swanson in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She was welcomed warmly by her family as the youngest child of seven - Kimberly, Robert, Megan, Abigail and the twins; Austin and Audrey. Her arrival had been a bit of a surprise to the couple, but they loved her nonetheless and were thrilled at the prospect of having another addition to the family. Their house was fairly small with only three bathrooms and four bedrooms so it was very much a hassle to get any sort of privacy. Samantha suffered sharing with her older sisters when she turned old enough move out of her parents room at five years old. Her parents were no where near rich, working minimum wage jobs - her mother, an antique’s dealer and her father who worked two jobs as a mall security officer. It was rare that she got to see either of her parents and it was usually up to her older siblings to take care of her constantly. She got along with her brothers and sisters fairly well, who all affectionately called her Sammy, a nickname she didn’t like all that much.
There was a deeper connection between her two older siblings, Kimmy and Rob the two that most often took over the role of mom and dad for the younger kids when their parents weren’t around, which was most of the tie. Austin and Audrey or the twins as they were referred to were sometimes a constant annoyance with the trouble that always followed them wherever they went. Megan was quiet and kept to herself, but her and Abigail had their differences and once upon time they used to be as thick as thieves, but as they got older, they grey apart and the constant bickering between them was enough to cut the tension that flooded the room. And because money was tight, there wasn’t much else to do than hang around your brothers and sisters. Eventually, Samantha began to find her own calling in dance and the passion began to grow when everyone started to realize she was actually really good. She practiced mostly at home just for fun. At first, Nick and Kate weren’t so attentive to her desire to pursue this as something more. Samantha was only eight years old, but she kept at it, competing in talent shows and used any spare time to practice.
At eleven years old, she got her first pair of ballet shoes along with lessons at a dance studio as a gift from her grandparents who had flown from California for her birthday. Samantha began right away with much enthusiasm and won the heart of her dance instructor by her natural talent that many girls her age over looked because they focused so hard on getting the steps right. She took her dance seriously though, but they eventually came to a close when Nick was laid off from his job. It took a financial toll on the family. There wasn’t much that was able to make her dad smile on those days, but he did seem to love to watch her dance to the piano. It seemed to lift his spirits enough to find a job, a job as a guard at the state prison facility. Samantha resumed her lessons much to Nick’s encouragement, but despite how much she loved it, she refused because of the money her parents were putting into the lessons. Something they didn’t necessarily have a lot of. It wasn’t until her dance teacher told her parents about Gordon Parks Academy. Samantha sent in her application after finding out more information about it and rejoiced when her acceptance letter came a month later.
ROLE PLAYING SAMPLE
In Manhattan if you wanted to climb the social ladder it was almost impossible to do so without at least one dinner with Eliane Cabot. Her social calendar was booked months ahead and even if a window appeared, she never let it be known. Not unless she wanted it to be. She fully intended however with Christian Duke - she had long ago learned that men liked nothing more than to be seen as option number one - to casually let it slip that she had texted her back up plan, Molly, jazz and Martinis at the Carlyle - feigning a cold in order to meet with him. After all, he had kept up his end of the bargain. He was polite enough not to mention her late arrival and she, arrogant enough not to apologize for it, his divine accent as her glossy lips, chilled from the New York winter met the perfect warmth of his cheeks was the first thing she heard.
She smiled charmingly when he complimented her appearance as enchanting. Eliane was quite, quite sure if she was not already broken hearted then her heart might have flipped a little over those words. But he was not Alexander Wentworth, and so, it did not. 'And you, Mr. Duke, sound terrible charming.' Too often she pretended her life was a classic movie and if the last few days had been firmly routed in the tragic genre, she deserved a little Bogart and Bacall screwball comedy. And screwball was just what she got, complete with Cary Grant accent and carefully placed one liners. She tilted her head at his eloquence as he ordered a bottle of wine before telling her how he liked to be kept informed and how she herself did as well. 'For arguments sake lets say I agree, although I do find a little mystery to be far more .... enchanting.' she purred, deliberately using his choice of words to describe her appearance was a note she was especially happy with.
