PERSONALITY
When you look in the background, it's likely that that's where you'll find Gavin. He doesn't necessarily avoid attention at all cost, and he doesn't like being ignored any more than the next guy, he just finds himself more comfortable staying in the shadows, and he's always been that way. It goes with his dancing, too - he adores it, and he tries to keep his technique as flawless as possible, but he's never aspired to a role of lead, and he doesn't mind being in the back mingled with other dancers. He know that, no matter if he's in the front or the back, he matters just as much as anybody else, because a show can't go on if one person is missing, no matter what their status of fame is. The person who takes care of the lights on a movie set is as important as the actor who plays the lead, and he knows that, and so he doesn't need to be the star to know that his presence on stage or in a project is of importance to its completion.
He's not an exceptionally smart guy, but he's an extremely good and fast learner. You show him something once, and it doesn't take him more than that to retain it and be able do it himself a few minutes later. He loves it, too, loves learning new things, no matter what it is in reference to. He knows as many things about nature as he does about dance moves and astronomy, and next to dance, science is his second passion, no matter what kind of science. He's a bit of a geek at heart, though he looks more like someone who could belong on the football team, and he does love sports too. For all he's an avid learner and a bookworm - he's read more books at his age than many middle aged people - he's also very active, and he especially loves baseball and golf.
He's a very patient and kind boy, a people helper. He's not a pushover, but he loves sharing his knowledge and doing what he can for others who need any sort of assistance. He spent the past summer working in a camp for children, and he really loved it - he plans on passing for his lifeguard badge after his freshman year. He really likes working with kids and teaching them things, from what planet that big shiny spot in the sky is to how to do a cartwheel or fly a kite. He's quiet, but by no means shy. It's very hard to intimidate him, for all he seems like he could easily be pushed aside. He'd very confident in who he is, without seeming arrogant or conceited, and he treats everyone and anyone like friends, no matter their age, gender or social status. He's not a flirt nor a charmer - he's a friend to girls first and foremost.
APPEARANCE
Gavin is an attractive guy, but not in a way that stands out in a crowd. He won't be that guy you walk past in the school halls and practically drool and daydream at the sight of him. He's got a slightly boyish look to him still, but his body is starting to develop a more manly shape to it. Like most fair haired guys, he doesn't have much body or facial hair, but it doesn't bother him in the slightest as he's not one of those teenage boys who's looking forward to the moment they can start shaving and be men - he knows it has nothing to do with maturity or manliness, and he sees it from the bright side, which is that he doesn't have to lose time shaving every morning. He stretches up to 5'10" and his body has a nice built to it from his like of sports - he's not buff but his muscles are well defined.
He has a nice healthy tint to his skin, which is practically flawless for a kid his age, and well defined features. His grayish green eyes sometimes look rather plain, but very striking also when in the right light, and his short dirty blonde hair is very plainly styled - he doesn't like having to take time on getting ready in the morning, so he goes with the simple options without having to be careless. He has a good sense of fashion but nothing very special - he's very economical, and so he doesn't care about brands - if the shirt he's wearing looks nice and is comfortable, he doesn't care if he got it at Gap or Wal-Mart. Usually he'll go for clean cut jeans and t-shirts with sneakers, and when he has to dress up slightly, he doesn't go too much out of his ways either, but the style of clothes he wear makes him look as good as the next guy who'd spend sixty dollars on a shirt.
HISTORY
Isaac Mitchell and Esther Hirsch were playmates from the moment they were born, spending practically every moment of their childhood together. Their fathers worked together, and their mothers, who had been best friends themselves in their own youth, stayed at home with their children, where they were also homeschooled once they got older. It kept going that way until Isaac turned 10 and Esther turned 7. Isaac's father was fired from his job, and it was found that Esther's dad had had something to do with it. The promising friendship of many of those family members was broken by their fathers' feud. Isaac was sent to school along with his brother and sister, and Esther and her own older sister remained at home to be taught by their mother still.
For eleven years, they remained without any type of news from one another, though their mothers kept talking on the phone in spite of their husbands' fight - they had been friends before, and they wouldn't let it be broken because of that. Once Esther graduated high school, she made the decision to take nursing in college, and on the very first day, at lunch, sat across from a boy - more a man now - who looked very familiar to her. She saw him for two months in school without ever talking to him, until one day he noticed her and approached her. It merely took two hours of talking before the old childhood friendship rekindled, and blossomed into something more. Merely a year later, they were married in spite of their fathers' disapproval, and moved from Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Bismarck, North Dakota. It took a few more years before they decided to start their family, a year after Isaac graduated college and began working in his field. For three years, and a half, they remained childless, suffering through three miscarriages. When Esther got pregnant for a fourth time, she lived through the daily terror that she would lose yet another child, and the stress and fright remained until the eighth month.
On the sunny morning of April 26th 1995, Gavin Chase Mitchell was born, three weeks and a half before his due date, but healthy and loud. He was his daddy's pride, and his mother's joy, and they cherished their baby boy thoroughly, raising him in their moderate Jewish religion from the moment of his birth, though still allowing him to learn about other religions and ways of living as well. Both parents dearly loved their son, but they knew their family was yet not complete. It took one more miscarriage before a second real pregnancy occured, and a month after Gavin's five birthday, twins Deborah Margo and Naomi Beth were born three months prematurely.Too young to survive on their own, they were both kept in the hospital with other premies for almost five months, where both Isaac and Esther spent practically their entire free time, and once the girls were brought home, they were dedicated all the attention the two parents could spare to give, leaving Gavin without barely any of it. To make up for their lack of presence in the small boy's life, they signed him up for a special private school, where he had to arrive early in the morning and left after dinner time, and where after school hours worked as almost a day camp. There he learnt sports, arts and science, how to survive when lost in the wood or in winter, what herbs are poisonous and which can be eaten.
He liked it really, but even with the knowledge of the money his parents put into it, it still didn't entirely make up for how little attention he got from them, even once the two girls grew older and without any health problem, if not for Deb's asthma and Naomi's allergies. When he was ten, he put all of the things he owned and couldn't part with in a backpack, grabbed food that would last him a while and revised all the survival knowledge he'd learnt before he ran away. He camped out in the woods by night and walked by day, for almost two weeks, when he was finally found by the police and brought back home. His father was ready to give him the punishment of a lifetime, but his mom, wiser, knew there was something more to their little's son radical actions. Explanations were provided and tears were shared, and after that moment Esther and Isaac made sure to try and dedicate an equal amount of time to all of their children, and the tense relationship Gavin had had with his sisters improved by a great deal. He kept going to the private school he'd grown to love, and it was when he turned eleven that he discovered his passion through a new class that had been added to the list of optional after school activities.
To be sure, it was by accident that Gavin found himself in a dance class. To him, even at eleven, there was something wrong at the thought of a boy enjoying dancing - he'd gotten teased enough as it was at six years old when his mother had gotten him to do figure ice skating so that he could perfect his skating skills. And when his name got mixed up in the lot, taking him away from the golf class he's intended on taking to the dance one, he protested but decided he might as well at least try it out. It would be boring and stupid, but it was better than doing nothing. He was proved wrong on the first point not even ten minutes after the class had started. He soon became a regular within those classes, improving so quickly every day that his teacher was shocked at how fast he became better than some students who had already studied dancing for years in other classes. She sent a letter home with him, suggesting to his parents that they put him in classes of a higher level and that he truly had a gift. The first answer was a categorical no - his father would not hear of his son dancing. Dance was for girls. Esther, however, was not so quick to jump to conclusions - after all, if no guys danced, there would definitely be a lack in the world of dance.
It took almost a year before she managed to convince her husband that their son loving to dance was not the end of the world, especially when seeing how dedicated he was to learning it and how good he was at it. It wasn't even a year after he'd started taking dance lessons outside the school when his teacher requested to speak to his parents, giving them a brochure to a prestidigious art school in Missouri, where he could learn more than she could ever teach him and perfect his skills, not to mention get an incredible education in every other field. There were many discussions over it, many phone calls with the Vice Principal of the school and even one with the Principal herself, and a short trip on campus to visit the place before the decision was made that Gavin would be sent there once he entered high school. His application was sent early, and it was only three weeks before he received his letter claiming he had been accepted.
