PERSONALITY
If Jacob could define himself with one word, it would have to be determination. He has been put down for his stubbornness, unrelenting nature and his impulsiveness, but he figure those could easily be identified as positives as well. His decisions are direct and clear without any sort of doubt, once it’s set he follows through it no matter the consequences. Jacob believes that mistakes allow people to better themselves and no one can learn without them. It’s okay to make mistakes especially now while he’s young because mistakes in the future will tend to be less forgiving and harsh. He values and respects hard work and feels that the amount of effort put behind something will pay off. Success will be much sweeter when knows he’s done the best he could and gave it his all. That’s why school is such a breeze for him. His hard work and determination pays off in studies. Although, he doesn’t really find studying a necessity as he usually understands what is taught the first time around and is never one to forget. It’s almost as natural as breathing for him. He usually puts his effort into offering tutoring for his classmates.
When it comes to making friends, Jacob has no problem. He’s not shy in the slightest, but he doesn’t really like to be put on the spot. He’s more of the type of person to stand back and watch the interactions of others around him. He likes to be around a group of people, but doesn’t necessarily like to be included in the conversation. Once or twice Jacob will add a comment or opinion, but aside from that he’s content in just listening and watching his friends laugh and joke. Jacob is one of the most nicest guys you could meet. He’s a great and loyal friend to the point where he‘ll stand by you no matter the circumstances. He’s fiercely protective over those he cares for and is not one to back down from anyone without a fight. He isn’t much of a troublemaker, he feels that there are reasons rules are made and therefore should be followed, but he’s all for breaking one once in awhile for a little adventure. He may not be a huge party animal, but he’s down for having a good time. He's not a complete stick in the mud as he'll down a beer or a shot of vodka without a problem. Jacob has even gotten his taste of smoking, but didn't enjoy it so much. That and his mom would kill him if he came home with a pack of cigarettes or worse. Don't ask him to dance at a party, he might be musically inclined, but he's a mess on the dance floor.
You can call him old fashioned, but Jacob could care less. Raised by his mother and father, he learned how to treat a lady. They say chivalry is dead, but he is one of the few males of his generation who still live by that. From opening a door to offering his jacket on a cold evening is how he shows women his respect. Jacob is just as straight as the next guy and he’s had a few passing girlfriends, but nothing serious enough that could be called a relationship. Most of them were just flings and a few were friends that he messed around with, but none really stood out to him enough to consider them girlfriend material. To be honest, most of them were not someone he could bring home to his parents and that’s putting it lightly. He would like to find a nice girl who liked him for him and supported his studies and was someone he could trust and depend on. That's all he asks and from there he would like to see where it would go. But, for right now his focuse is music. He can play piano, guitar, violin, flute, saxophone and the drums. If you want to find him in his element, then just take a peek in during his private practices. It’s the one thing in his life that means the most to him.
APPEARANCE
Jacob is an average looking guy. He’s approximately about five foot seven inches with a slim build to him. His height is probably the only thing he has a problem with, wishing he were a bit taller than he was at this moment. But, he figure he’ll grow in time. He has about five to six years until he stops growing so there’s at least something to look forward to. His hair is dark brown where it almost looks black. It’s not exactly short, but it’s not long either. He keeps it neatly combed and styled even if he’s going out for a few minutes. His eyes vary in color going from gray, to a light blue to bluish green depending on the light. Their his best feature, or so his mother thinks as they contrast sharply against his dark hair color.
His wardrobe is very casual. With three younger siblings and a medium to low income, Jacob doesn’t exactly have the latest clothes and he's okay with that. Most of his outfits consist with a comfortable pair of jeans or khakis and a plain or graphic tee. He'll also wear sandals from time to time as living by the beach and in the Golden State it wasn't an uncommon thing for guys to seen wearing them. But out here in Missouri, where it snows and is a lot less cooler, he's better fitted to wea sneakers, opting to leave his sandals back home in Cali.
HISTORY
It was a match made in heaven for high school sweethearts, Shannon Farley and Jason Kennedy. They met freshman through a mutual friend at a social gathering for the Homecoming decorating committee. Both were put to work on stage set up for the band to play along with three others. It was a bit of a rough patch for them as the two at different ideas for the decorations and were pulling their team apart by their constant arguing. Despite it all, they became fast friends. You would think the homecoming dance be an appropriate setting for them to get together, but Shannon went with someone else and Jason had other plans for that night so wasn’t able to go. Although, Shannon had a boyfriend during that year and the next as well, she and Jason were known by everyone to the best of friends. It wasn’t until Junior year when Shannon’s boyfriend was caught cheating on her with a girl from the cheerleading team did a spark between her and Jason ignite. It started out slow and when Jason couldn’t keep his feelings a secret anymore he did something about it in the summer before senior year. They were the ‘it’ couple of the high school and were printer as cutest couple in the yearbook. After graduation, they both applied to UCLA, Shannon for theatre and Jason for architect.
Still together and happy as ever, Shannon found a gig as a singing actress at a big stage theater while Jason worked across town as an intern for a construction company. He propose that year on 4th of July and they married just six months later. It was a small wedding, but a big honeymoon. Jacob was then born two years after on August 2nd in the late evening. He was a quiet baby, rarely fussed or gave the couple any problems that they’d been expecting. They lavished him with attention and put him first above all else. Jacob was now their number one priority, filling his life with love and memories that every child deserves and craves from their parents. Jason often took his son to the park or to the arcade where they would play for hours, having their father-son time that they didn’t always have as Jason would be gone on a job for the company he built for. Shannon often took him with her to her theatre where he was able to dress up or play around with band instruments of the hired orchestra. It’s where his love for music began and by three years old he was learning to play the piano.
With Jacob old enough and the young couple getting the swing of parenthood, the decided to have another baby. In nine months, out popped Isaac. The two boys together were a bit of a handful as they didn’t really hit it off so well. Jacob was full of jealousy and no matter how many times Shannon and Jason reassured him that they loved him just as equally, Jacob still couldn’t get over the new addition. But, in time, he learned to adjust. After that episode, they agreed to stop their family at two, but fate had something else for them. Two years later, Bryan was born and finally a year later it was baby girl Kayla. As the oldest out of the four siblings, Jacob took it upon himself to be the protector and set a good example for them. He made sure to take care of them and help out as much as he could, often getting praised by his parents for being an good older brother. Between his siblings, Jacob was closest to his sister. Bryan was obnoxious, often cracking jokes and getting to trouble. He and Isaac, however, were polar opposites. They’re personalities clashed harshly and although they had moments when they got along, there was usually never a day that didn’t pass when they wouldn’t argue. Arguments that often led to fighting.
Small house, big family required a move. They found a nice, two story house by the beach in Capitola, California. The move didn’t sit well with Jacob, so he spent most of his time in music lessons learning and teaching and playing. By twelve years old he was a pro at the piano, skilled with the guitar and excellent when it came to drums. He did dabble with the violin and the saxophone by the request of his mother and though he enjoyed playing them, he didn’t exactly like it. But, it didn’t keep him from continuing to try other instruments and even singing which he was alright in. He knew that this was something he wanted to do. Jacob’s passion relied in music whether it be he was part of a band on stage, an orchestra somewhere in the back or in the studio for major pop artist. As long as he as playing something, it would bring him happiness. Isaac was good at sports, coming home with trophies and medals. Bryan was going to follow their father in becoming an architect. Kayla, however held the same passion for music as him, but held a much deeper one for singing.
After two days from being held up by a construction project, Jason came home to his family with news for his oldest son. His co worker had a daughter who applied to a boarding school in Missouri that centered around the arts. Unfortunately, her application had been denied by reason he didn’t shared, but Jacob found himself intrigued by the information. The next day, Shannon called the number of the school Jason had left for their son. She found out every last detail of the school from how long is the accepting process to how many students in class to what are the ground rules for boarding. The application was sent to their house and Jacob instantly filled it out by the encouragement from his family. A few weeks passed and Jacob’s hopes in going to Gordon Parks Academy faded to the point where he forgot all about it. He was already looking into classes at the local high school when his siblings rushed into the room with his acceptance letter. It was ripped down the middle amongst their squabbling, but Jacob couldn’t find himself to be mad. He shared the news with his parents and they started to prepare for his departure come August. Although, he’d miss his family greatly, Jacob could not wait until he was at the new school.
ROLE PLAYING SAMPLE
Being alone didn’t really bother Ava that much, it was the thoughts that came with it is what she had a problem with. It was probably the only reason she could come up with as to why she was putting so much effort into turning the blank placement into a beautiful vision of shapes and colors. This caused her mind to be pre occupied and kept those un wanted thoughts out of her head. It was at time like these when she was alone, which seemed to be a majority of the time that Ava noticed her lack of friends. She didn’t think it would be so hard to transition into Gordon Parks upon her arrival a few days after her sixteenth birthday. Of course, there was always her younger cousin Brooke, but she had her own circle of friends and she didn’t really want to be an inconvenience. They talked and hung every so often, but that was pretty much the extent of it all. Now, Ava had every intention on making friends with people here in the same year and she did in fact make a few, but not completely serious enough to hang out with everyday. It was surprising how she managed to get through the day.
It sounded as though there was a mountain lion or something in here with the way her stomach was growling. She wondered just how much longer it would take to hurry up with her order. Her glass of water was nearly empty, but it wasn’t really satisfying her hunger very much. Ava set down her crayons and smiled at the placemat. A funky looking face with a triangle for a nose and square for eyes with violet skin looked back at her. She really had no idea where her inspiration came from. It was at that moment, Ava heard someone sliding into the seat across from her and looked up when they addressed her about being Brooke’s cousin. “Uh.. Yeah,” she answered, slowly, but still offered a smile. It was a girl and she looked very familiar, probably a student from Gordon Parks. When the girl introduced herself it was like a light bulb went off and recognition appeared on her face. She smiled wider, “So, you’re Valerie! Nice to finally meet you. Brooke tends to mention you a lot when we hang out. I haven’t met her first shadow, though, but I hear he’s nice. One day, maybe.” she was able to hold her tongue long enough to finally introduce herself. “Oh, I’m Ava,” she supplied, “Well, you obviously must be very hungry after a long day of shopping. Let‘s get you a menu.” There was no way to suppress her motherly nature towards others as she waved down the waitress.
