PERSONALITY
Haylee is more of the quiet type of girl. She enjoys talking with her friends and family, but when it comes to situations where she's part of a large group of people she doesn't know, she'll prefer remaining silent and listen to what the other people have to say. Mostly because she figures that, if they're talking, then they surely have something more interesting to say than she does. She's a sweet girl, but not overly - she doesn't love everyone, she doesn't think the world only has good in it and that every human being living on it is wonderful. She actually tends to be a bit of a pessimist when it comes to the world in general, very ecologically conscious and trying to do her part as often as possible by recycling and not wasting anything, from food to electricity. She's very self sacrificing when it comes to her friends though, much preferring to see to it that they're as happy as can be rather than seeking out her own happiness - besides, she know that she couldn't be happy if the people she loves weren't anyway.
She takes her studies as seriously as her music, spending as much time studying as she does practicing, though she still makes time for her social life because she's well aware that friends are not something she wants to take for granted, having learned a rather bitter lesson by doing so before. It's much easier at the Academy though, seeing as she finds herself surrounded by people who understand her passion for music, seeing as they're here pursuing their own dreams, but nonetheless, she's a very friendly girl and she doesn't generally dislike a lot of people, unless they're really terrible human beings or just completely annoying. She's got her own faults, obviously - she gets a bit too intense when she's involved in something she loves, and a lot of time she allows it to completely consume her. She's rather insecure as to who she is, and she's one of the biggest worry wart there ever was - she was the one to request of her parents and friends back home to exchange daily phone calls or emails rather than the other way around, so to make sure that they're alright.
She's very innocent when it comes to love and relationships - she'd never dated anyone, and the most of what she knows, she learned from movies and tv shows. She's smart enough not to expect fiction to merge into reality though, but for the most part it just goes to show how she's not too sure of what she's supposed to expect. Boys seem like a bit of a foreign concept to her, though she'd found herself to be attracted to a few of them in the past couple of years, but most of the time she doesn't actually find that interest to be strong enough to push her to approach them, being too shy to do so anyway. And then, there are these confusing moments when she realizes that she's physically attracted to a girl, but she tends to push those kind of thoughts away. Of course, she's not entirely clueless - she knows what sex is, and she's well aware that a lot of teen her ages have already been introduced to it, but as for herself, she just doesn't see the appeal yet.
APPEARANCE
Standing short at five feet and three and a half inches (the half inch is very, very important to her), Haylee's looks are something that have always been a bit of a problem for her. She doesn't think of herself as ugly or unattractive per say, but she still wishes she had more to show for her looks. She's dyed her hair since the age of thirteen, preferring the red color she gets to its natural brown, and she meticulously straightens it every morning, not much of a fan of its somewhat wavy natural shape. She's got a very fair complexion which, much to her discontent, never seems to tan, no matter how many ways she's tried to get it too before she realized that she was doomed to lathering her skin with very strong sunscream any time she got out in the sun. Her eyes, however, are the one feature she's very entirely happy with, bright blue with long, thick lashes.
Makeup is a must for her, though she doesn't really need much of it. She's one of the few lucky teenagers who has, most of the time, soft, flawless skin, and since her mother has never really encouraged her to use makeup a lot, her collection is rather scarce - she keeps it simple, generally going for a light pink tinted gloss, eyeshadow and mascara. As for her clothing style, it's more on the girlie side, with soft, pale colors and frilly details. Skirts are a favorite with her, though she also likes to wear jeans once in a while, or really anything that enhance the good aspects of her body, which is more on the petite side but slender and in good shape.
HISTORY
On the sunny morning of June 14th 1994, in the city of Surrey, British Columbia, little Haylee Marie was the fourth child, but first daughter, born to happy parents Jeffrey and Kelly Jones. The couple, married for five years already, had always agreed that three children would be the perfect amount, but after having had three sons, whom they obviously loved dearly, they still wished that they might have a daughter too, and decided to try one last time. Their wish was granted, and so after oldest son Justin and twins Dustin and Shane, Haylee was the fourth baby welcome into the little family living in the greater Vancouver regional district. Their father, a dentist, made a good enough salary to allow Kelly to temporarily stay home with the kids until they'd be old enough to go to school, not wanting to have them raised by a babysitter, and once Haylee was sent off on her first day of kindergarten, Kelly resumed her older career of interior designer.
Haylee grew up a little spoiled, but not so badly that it ruined her character - she was just very much loved by both her parents and all three of her brothers, Justin especially, who took his big brother role very seriously even at his young age, though he was merely four years older than her. She was a sweet, shy little girl who claimed her mother's attention a lot, clinging to her any time she was around, especially when she was brought out in public, feeling a bit scared of the other people who tried to talk to her. But as much as she loved to be with her mother whenever she could, did she love it best when her dad was the one to put her to bed at night, enjoying the story he told, but more specifically the songs he sang and played with his guitar. It was, however, the less efficient way to get her to fall asleep, for she would always reach out to try and touch the chords and figure out how the instrument made the sounds it did, always asking for one more song whenever he finished.
With the interest she showed in music so early on in life, her parents soon decided to sing her up for classes. All of their children had an activity to keep them busy - Justin having picked hocked while Dustin preferred soccer and Shane went for swimming - and so it simply seemed natural that Haylee should too. She was not very inclined to doing sports as her brother was, but music fascinated her and so it seemed like an easy way to go. They started out with piano lessons, figuring that was a common way to start before she was old enough to pick an instrument of her own. She did love the guitar very much still, but it seemed a bit silly to pay for lessons when she could ask her father to show her, and so when she reached the age of eight and her parents asked her if there was something else she'd like to try, she chose the harp. It came as a bit of a surprise, for neither Kelly nor Jeffrey remembered her talking about it before or even seeing someone playing it, but they consented, soon finding classes for her to take and busy a reasonably priced used harp for her to practice on.
Her love for it only grew as the time passed, and by the time she was ten, her teacher declared she'd never seen such a young girl with so much determination to learn, her calloused fingers being good proof of that. She kept working hard though, spending as much time as she was allowed to practice every single day, as long as her homework was done, though her parents also insisted that she at least spent an hour a day outside in good weather, not wanting her to always stay coped up inside, which she soon found a solution to by bringing her harp out with her on the patio to practice. It was obvious to all who knew her that her interest of music had evolved into a passion, and soon her teacher found that she couldn't really teach her much more than what the young girl of now thirteen knew. Her parents started looking for more advanced classes as high school neared, but it wasn't until a friend of their contacted them with information about an American boarding school, with great academics but also a focus on the arts, that they found a solution. Haylee was a bit hesitant at first, not entirely sure she wanted to leave her home for months a year, but after a few long family talks, the decision was made to sent in an application, and there was no regret or second thoughts when a letter arrived, announcing she had been accepted.
