PERSONALITY
Melanie has always had a bit of trouble figuring out where she belongs exactly. She's never been the type to feel as if she could probably be labeled as just one type of person and doesn't like when people focus just on one aspect of her. Largely, she's still trying to figure out who exactly she is and who she wants to become, so when people try to label her as one thing or another it doesn't help. She's obviously never fallen into cliques or anything at school, instead she is just friends with whomever she wants to be friends with. She doesn't like limiting herself to any one set of people or expectations. However, she's not entirely unreasonable in her quest to figure herself out. There are certain things that she wouldn't ever do, like drugs or smoking, and certain things that currently just aren't appealing for her, like sex and alcohol. She has no doubts that sometime she'll have experiences with both of the latter, but for now she sees no rush into such things while she's still so young. Instead, she's always for other new experiences - trying activities that she's never done before or doing them differently, meeting new people and trying new styles, foods and techniques.
For the most part, she is a pretty nice girl and tries to give everyone an equal chance before getting to know them. She isn't someone who puts up with bad treatment though, not in the slightest. If she doesn't like the way someone is treating her, she will speak up to the person about it - and depending on who that person is, it won't always be in the nicest way. She isn't scared of what someone else might think of her when she's upset because she knows that she isn't quick to anger, so she usually falls into the category of thinking that at such a point it is the other person's problem and not usually being very apologetic. Not surprisingly, sometimes having such an attitude can be very bad for her and with a tad stubborn streak to back it up, it can be all the worse. There does come a time though when she'll think about whether or not the situation is worth what she knows will clearly end up happening in some instances if she refuses to apologize. Although stubborn, she isn't willing to completely alienate the people she cares about because of it.
She's had fairly limited experience when it comes to matters of dating and such. Mostly just because she hasn't seen that much interest in it up until recently, never feeling the need to be in a relationship quite so young. And when it comes to romance... she isn't at all like her sister. Instead, she has a more realistic expectation and perception on what a relationship should look like. She doesn't mind love stories or whatever, but she has a hard time believing that they would happen in real life. She instead has a view that relationships are more of a long process that should be entered into seriously. Although, she has nothing to say against the idea of flings or what not, figuring that if people want just to have a physical connection that they shouldn't bother trying to enter under the cover of a relationship to get it and if she gets to that point, she'll make it clear of that way.
Mel is a pretty open minded person, not seeing it her place to try and judge other people in most circumstances. Of course there are exceptions, mostly when people are being unbearable about any issue, but other than that she believes that everyone is trying to get through life in their own way and it isn't her place to try and direct which way that should be. That said, she doesn't have a lot of tolerance for people who don't extend the same sorts of courtesy to others. If someone is closed minded, she doesn't even waste her time with them and lets them know up front that they aren't someone she will be associating with. She sees the value and difference between closed minded people and people who have strong beliefs. The latter deserve respect for sticking to their guns, so long as they manage to keep from putting others down along the way.
APPEARANCE
Melanie doesn't have much to complain about when it comes to her appearance. Standing at 5'5" she's average in height and has the kind of figure that many girls would be very happy with, blessed with curves in the right places and few in the wrong. Just like with the rest of herself, she's still trying to figure out what she likes and dislikes. Hence the reason why her naturally brown hair is currently bleached a bright blonde with a layer of purple and a layer of black to the mix. Her bright blue eyes, straight white smile and a dusting a freckles complete the picture that she is happy enough to look into the mirror and see most mornings. She does have glasses that she'll wear on occasion but mostly sticks to contacts in her everyday life. As for makeup, she usually wears a bit of it - some days more than others - it just depends on how she's feeling in the morning and how much time she is willing or able to spend on doing it.
As for her style, Mel also has the idea of trying out new things. She owns mini skirts and flowy, light tops and high heels and anything else that is more likely to be found in her sister's closet as well. However, she also owns plenty of other types of clothes as well, baggy, dark, ripped, you name it and she's likely got an article like it. What she wears depends largely on how she's feeling that day. To her, fashion is a way to express ones self without saying anything at all. So why not go ahead and make a bold statement as to her feelings for the day?
HISTORY
Melanie Blair Williams was the second and final child born to parents Justin Williams and Kayla Fox on October 3rd, 1996. The little girl joined a happy household of three already, older sister Bethanie born three years before. By the time that she came into the family, her grandparents had expected that Kayla and Justin would be married or at least on their way to the altar by that point. However, it became clear that even the addition of a second child wasn't going to make the two young parents decide to get hitched. Instead, life went about as usual with the added joy of another baby in the house. Bethanie took to Melanie right away, loving her little sister and being fascinated with the idea of having a playmate all the time. Luckily, Melanie took to her older sister just as strongly and loved being around her. Not minding when she had to be the dress up doll or the one that was playing dolls with Beth. Naturally, both Justin and Kayla were very pleased to see that the two girls were getting along and hoped that such a bond would last despite the age difference.
It did. Even as they grew older and Beth found herself more girly and interested in guys, while Melanie found herself growing more out of a specific group and obviously not to the point of being interested romantically in anyone. The two continued to share the same passion in dance and Melanie was determined to be every bit as great as her sister and it wasn't hard for her to follow that goal either, being close to as naturally talented as the older girl. She too found herself excelling in the dance classes that she was a part of. Beth always willing to take the time to help her little sister try to improve in any way that she was able and Melanie usually following the advice her sister gave her without question. Although she wasn't the type to follow others, Beth was pretty much the exception to that rule all the time.
When she turned 12 she learned that her older sister would be going off to an arts academy for her dancing, though she took it sort of hard to know that her sister would be gone for the majority of the year for the next four years of her life, she quickly decided to set her sights on that same academy. Trying to improve in her dance as much as she was able and taking any pointers that she could get from her sister when she'd come home during the summer, not wanting to face the possibility of being rejected from the academy that she'd been planning on going to since Beth had gotten admitted. However, it wasn't something that she entirely let run her life either. After all, if she put everything she had into such a goal she'd end up losing herself. So, her interests continued to expand into trying new things as well. Always making sure that she had time to do things other than practice her dancing and making time for friends as well.
With so much to do and Beth being away most of the year, it wasn't much of a surprise that the two girls did start to grow apart a bit in the time that she was gone. Not to mention the different interests that the two girls took and different general personalities. They still get along well and Mel loves Beth just as much as the other girl loves her, they just don't exactly see eye to eye on everything and can't spend as much time together as they used to. When the time came for Mel to apply to Gordon Parks' though, Beth was right there helping her out to try and make sure that she did the best that she was able. Once the application had been sent and the audition completed there was nothing to do but wait. The time was one of the hardest that Mel had ever faced, eagerly fetching the mail every day with hopes that a letter of acceptance might be inside for her. Each day when there wasn't one the tiny fear that a letter of rejection might be coming instead growing larger, despite Beth's assurances that she'd have to get in.
Finally, the letter did come. The letter informing her that she had been accepted to Gordon Parks' Academy for the Arts, just as her sister had been three years before her. Excitedly Mel ran around the whole house to tell her parents and called up all of her friends to let them know that she'd be going to Kansas City in the fall. So, when the time came, Melanie packed up her bags to head off to Kansas City for her first year at the prestigious art academy and got on the plane with her sister, who was heading for her final year.
