PERSONALITY
Jade is the kind of girl that likes getting noticed in a crowd - and whether it's because of her appearance or her personality, it's rare she doesn't stick out. She's a very straight forward kind of girl, and very confident, which shows in the way she holds herself and approaches other people. Indecision and insecurity are two words that she refuses to incorporate in her vocabulary - which is the very reason why she refers to herself as queer, and not bisexual. She hates the label, and she feels it makes her sound like she can't make up her mind between which gender she'd attracted to. She doesn't dwell on anything, either. When she decides something, she goes for it. Waiting is only just a waste of precious time, and there are way too many things to be done, and way too many things to be seen on this earth to even think of trying to be laid back. Laziness in other people is one of the things she dislikes the most, and she makes all the efforts possible to always be proactive.
School is one of the things that, as a teenager, matters the most to her - tied in first place with fashion, of course. She's got an extremely determined mindset, and she is a perfectionist to a fault. She'd rather spend hours on her school work making sure it won't earn her anything less than an A (though ideally an A+) than chill out with people who think not doing anything is a good way to spend their time. She's got a bit of a judgemental side to her in some aspects, but at the same time she realizes that not everyone can choose to spend their lives the way she does. To get everything accomplished the way she wants to, she hardly ever sleeps more than five hours a night - because although she's very academically focused and doesn't like being lazy, she does want a thriving social life, which leaves little time for rest. But she doesn't mind - five hours is really all she needs, and sometimes even less. She's just one of those people blessed with a system that is ready to go in third speed mode at all times of the day, and that includes her sleeping patterns.
Being as expressive and outgoing as she is, theater was only an obvious choice to expand her list of talents, and she loves being on stage. Being in the spotlight has never made her nervous, and whether it's in front of a small group of people or a large crowd, she feels completely at ease with it. She doesn't necessarily see it as a career she wants to seriously pursue - she'd rather change the world - but it's definitely a nice hobby to have while she gets through her high school years. And even though it's no long term ambition of hers, everything she does she needs to do perfectly, hence her choice to attend an art school and perfect her skills even more, regardless of if they'll be to use of her in her future life or not. She feels the skills of learning how to appear in front of other people is not a wasted one for someone who desires a career in the limelight anyhow - if only just in a different fashion.
Her sexuality has never really been complicated to her. At the age of seven, she had her first crush on a boy of her class. At that point, she knew she likes boys. Then, a year and a half later, a new girl came around and her crush shifted - which opened up the door to her knowledge of being attracted to girls. She didn't wonder about it or ponder on it - she just knew that was the way it was, and there was no point in questioning it. She's had a couple of boyfriends and a few girlfriends still, but she hasn't found someone yet who's actually capable of keeping her with her - or who'll manage to get her to slow down. It doesn't bother her though - she doesn't feel lonely over it, and she gets things done better alone anyway.
APPEARANCE
Jade has always been something of a beauty, even as a child, but more so as she grew up, her body developping in all the right way. Her oval shaped face has well defined features with her almond-like brown eyes, thin nose and soft pink lips. She has as flawless of skin as any teenager her age can dream of having, and she usually lets her softly waved brown hair length vary from reaching the middle of her back to a little below her shoulders. Her skin has a perpetual tanned look to it, thanks to her Hawaiian heritage, but through the rest of her features, the Japanese side of her family is what tend to show through most.
Her body type is slim with all the right curves - she's very serious about being healthy in mind and body, and she generally opts for cardio type work outs such as jogging, or mind based meditation or yoga training. She'd very conscious of her looks, but not vain. She just likes looking her best, and while she's aware of her attractiveness - and sometimes flaunt it just a little when appropriate - she doesn't overly show it off. She tends to wear whatever clothes fit her best, but she does have a preference toward feminine, trendy clothes, or something a bit more business casual - she loves being well put together, and while she doesn't want to look like she dresses too old for her age, she feels dressing it up a little can help her get taken a bit more seriously. Her makeup routine is fairly simple, but she never leaves her room without it, and manicures at least once a month are a must.
HISTORY
Jade Akemi Tanaka was born to parents Shimon and Erina Tanaka in the city of Lahaina, located on the island of Maui, Hawaii. Her mother, apprehensive over giving birth for the first time, got the surprise of a surprisingly easy labor, getting her first contractions in the morning of November 5th, 1994, and giving birth less than three hours later. It seemed that even as a baby, Jade was decisive and determined - once she made up her mind she was ready to go out, she didn't lose any time. That did not, however, make her an easy baby to be around, as she was a very demanding newborn who needed much attention, and she had the set of lungs to get it. She was a very impatient baby who needed things done for her when she wanted them done, whether that be feeding, cuddling or diaper changing, and it didn't take her long to figure out that the best way to get what she wanted was to cry out to the world her indignation. Thankfully, she mellowed down a little as the months went by - or her parents got used to catering to her needs before a commotion started - and she gained a much more pleasant disposition.
By the age of three, she was already a confident little lady, and when her parents brought home her baby sister, Alana, she didn't want to hear anything about receiving assistance when asking to hold the little one - and thankfully, her high amount of confidence was generally matched by the same level of skills. She became an older sister with the same expertise as she undertook every other activity, from coloring to riding her bike, wanting to do it in the very best manner possible, always aiming for perfection. She took it upon herself to try and teach her baby sister to do things well before her time, never losing her patience but also never giving up, to a point where Alana started reaching some of her milestones earlier than expected for her age. Her baby sister was also the first audience Jade ever received, putting on little shows and plays to entertain her.
It was pretty clear from early childhood that Jade wasn't a normal kid per say, and as she grew older still, her parents realized she would need more challenges in her life than regular schools could give her, as she was growing bored in class. They soon found a school that would help her evolve more academically, but it was still lacking the artistic aspect that made Jade thrive. They looked into more cities around Hawaii, unwilling to send such a young child away from home though, and they eventually decided to leave her where she was until high school, hopeful that a few extra curricular activities would keep her busy and satisfied. She joined a few clubs here and there adn managed to adapt to her new school easily enough, getting elected class president two years in a row until she stopped running to fully dedicate herself to the drama club. It did help keep her on the line rather than disinterested, but she still wanted more, and as she got nearer to her high school years, she started doing her on researches as to where she might go.
While her parents limited their searches to neighboring cities, or islands at the furthest, Jade aimed higher - and once she found the one school she wanted to attend in the continental US, she made sure to present it to her parents in a way that would make it hard for them to say no. For probably the first time in her life though, Jade was faced with a categorical, and seemingly unchangeable negative response. Her father especially refused to agree to the idea of her going to live thousands of miles away from home as a teenager. And the more she pleaded and fought, the more they closed up at the idea. In the end, it was Alana who came to her side and supported her, working with her to convince their parents that this was something she needed to do. In the end, they agreed to a compromise. They would let her go for Freshman year, if she was accepted - once she came back in the summer, they would re-evaluate. Jade wasn't entirely pleased with the outcome, but she agreed to the compromise.
She sent out her application, and as is to be expected, received her acceptance letter soon after. She packed up her bags and left her home island for the first time in her life, making sure to make the year count and come home in the summer with an even stronger desire to return, and the grades to support her. It was then that her parents finally agreed to let her complete her entire high school studies at Gordon Parks' Academy, and she returned for her Sophomore year with a much lighter heart, but just as many ambitions.
